Soul Trapping

Post by Soultrapped »

I havn't been playing this game very long and am still learning, so it may be something I'm doing wrong, hopefully, and hopefully someone will help me out.

I don't seem to be able to trap a Dreamora Lord in my grand sould gem, I did some succesful tests on lesser creaters with lesser gems successfully but I can't get the Dreamora Lord in the Gem, any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm trying to get my strong hold through the house of telvanni, thanks.

Hi, and welcome to Gamebanshee. Please don't bump your thread when you are looking for an answer. If it slides back a couple pages that's a bit different, but generally if your thread is still on clearly visible then people will post an answer if they have one. ;)

As to your problem, I'm not real sure what to tell you. Are you running any mods that could mess with the game in some way? Right now the only thing I can think of is you might not be killing the Dremora Lord until after the soul trap spell has expired. They only have a limited duration, so for example if you cast soul trap for say 60 seconds, and the Dremora Lord dies after 61 seconds, the spell will have expired and you won't trap it. It's just a guess, but it's about all I can come up with at the moment.

Guess what? I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!

One thing puzzles me Soultrapped, you mention having problems soul tapping a Dremora Lord, but then say it's important as you're trying to progress in House Telvanni.

The only soul trapping quest I can recall in the HT quet line is to trap the souls of one of each of the Atronachs, Fire, Frost and Storm, for which you were given three grand soul gems. The tricky part in this quest is that if you have empty greater soul gems in your back pack, the souls of at least one (maybe all three, it's been a while) will go into that, and not the grand soul gem. The answer is to make sure that you don't have any greater soul gems on you when you go after the Atronachs.

If it really is Dremora that you're going after for your own purposes, and having problems with then Bloodstalker has come up with the only reason that I can think of. I actually find the easiest way to trap souls is to enchant a decent weapon with soul trap, using at least a good Common soul, preferably a greater. It only has to have an endurance of two or three seconds on a weapon, as it triggers every time you hit. It should be fairly cheap to get it enchanted, and if you stole Galbedir's soul gems in the Balmora mages guild either the Greater or lesser gem would be ideal, just make sure you don't ask her to do the enchanting!

One final point just occurred to me, Dremora aren't actually the best targets for soul trapping, especially with spells as they have an ability that reflects spells, so you could actually be casting the spell on yourself indirectly. Also, their souls aren't that valuable, I actually consider them a waste of a grand soul gem, Hungers or Winged Twilights are actually better IIRC, best of course are Golden Saints or Ascended Sleepers.

There is no quest such as the one you mention Galraen. To get your Telvanni stronghold you are given two soulgems to fill with greater souls. Storm Atronachs are recommended but not compulsory.

Darn it, which quest was I thinking about then? It's been a long time, I've only joined House Telvanni when I had an evil character, and that was along time ago. Sorry for the confusion.

Spoiler (Highlight to read)
Spoiler
I just checked the script, and the only souls that are acceptable are Golden Saints, Winged Twilights and Storm Atronachs , Dremora don't cut it.
End of Spoiler
