Hard to be a god

Post by GawainBS »

Hello

I'm considering buying this game. I'd like to ask you what you think about this game. Did you play it? How did you feel about it? Are the minimum recommended specs playable? Would you advice getting this game? (I know most of this is subjective, but I tend to rely more on your opinions than on the ravings of some online "reviewer.")

Thanks in advance!

Well, haven't played it, but IGN and Gamespot have given it poor reviews and by a rule of thumb which has proven very effective, I always go the exact opposite of their reviews.

I've currently bought it and it should arrive to me within a couple days, so if nobody else says anything I'll let you know.
Listen up maggots, Mr. Popo's 'bout to teach you the pecking order.

That's *exactly* why I ask around here, instead of going to those sites. ;)

Well, a preliminary judging of the game-

So far it's not appealing to me. First off, there's virtually no magic in the game. While that's fine for some people, I can't stand games without the use of magic, and what's worse is that everything about the game suggests magic but there isn't any (like the name of the game for instance).

Secondly, the combat system is almost as hard to control as The Witcher's combat system. Definite negative score there.

Third, the game praises realism over and over again, but realism is not a quality I prefer in games. I use video games, much like people use movies, to get AWAY from realism.

Fourth, the inventory system is a little difficult to use considering there's no hotkeys with it that I can find. It has a similar appearance as NWN2, when buying and selling stuff, you actually have to drag each individual item not only to the merchant's inventory but to a blank space in his inventory. Making that a pain.

Fifth, Horse maneuvering is even harder than that of oblivion. In oblivion, you had to use left and right to face, and then forward and backward to move. In this, each button has BOTH effects. Forward faces your horse forward and then moves him, left faces and moves him left, etc etc.

Sixth, the perspective of the camera is irritating, as there are times when birds eye view is inappropriate and a standard third person view would be more effective.

And sadly, the only pro I can come up with is unlike the witcher, this game has an auto targeting system for ranged and melee weapons. That's about it.

This is from 30 minutes of gameplay, and I'm already this disgusted.

I played around with the demo a bit, and I had thought of those points as well.

Thanks for sharing this, I guess I'll let this game sit on the shelf then.

I played the demo myself a long time ago and wasn't impressed with the game either. My gripes are similar to those of Siberys.
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

"Clunky" is the word that springs to mind, in fact. I got the feeling that I had to lean my whole body in the direction I wanted my character to move. :p
