some quests would get stuck

some quests would stay stuck

it seems some quests stop after a couple of correct tasks, and that would be, the next person would not tell me what he/she should.

let's say in chedinhal, the guard vice-captain would not react after the beggar's murder (aldos something), and keeps repeating "you must find aldos!"
even the other way (luring the guard chieftain to the elf home for revenge) would not work.

also, in leyawiin mages guild, the person who has to tell me more (dunno what) - agata, will not say anything at all and journal is stuck at "speak with agata" as the only hint for getting the recomendation.

wth??
is this happening often? are some quests broken at this point? or should i finish other quests beforehand? but the journal nor any npc give no clues at all about this.

the mods i have should only affect graphic issues, like "harvested plants", "plundered chests", and famous "francesco's" leveling mod that has only a couple of options activated.

game patched, with no si, but with unofficial patch 2.2 i think.
hope my current game is not screwed. thank you for any hint. :)

I haven't heard about those particular quests getting stuck before, but yeah, sometimes a glitch in the game will cause a quest to freeze at a particular point It usually happens if a location or NPC related to the quest has something bad happen before the quest starts. There's a fighters guild quest that's notorious for that - if you find the cave and kill all the monsters before you get the quest, you're hosed. One time I searched all over Cyrodiil for a character I needed to complete a thieves guild quest and found her dead in a ditch outside Bravil (long story).

Bottom line, if you're playing on PC you can usually use a console command to bump the quest to the next stage. On 360 your only hope is to reload a saved game.
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

thanx for the reply. pc here - only good platform imo :)

rather than messing with the console, i'll try later and leave that quest about guard chieftain's misbehaviour untouched for now.

got some hints on another forum, but it did not solve the problem.
it is indeed a big turndown, since i like exploring and will most likely get caught in many similar hooks, since i clear random dungeons instead of following exact directions from npcs. got the impression modern games are way too errand-oriented because younger customers would get puzzled otherwise - said harshly they are used to get everything served on a silver dish, and momma give directions, otherwise life gets boring and hollow. yet, i understand the devs have clear ideas about the market and their product's "success" is related to this.
if as you say, exploring and being free might hook some quests, i start fearing my chara would find later to be screwed big time, but the current feeling is, too late to restart and force myself to a different playing style. that would spoil the game more than a broken questline.

I think i have expirenced this just recently. It happened on vampi cure quest, on the part when i have to give cure to count, but his lady servent,(Hazil something)keeps telleing me that"The count waits within. Please do not delay." When i follow her, she either goes nowhere, or to dining hall, where im not allowed to go.
