The Big Q: Should I level up?

Post by unregisturd »

I just started a new character. I'm fresh out of prison. Here are my stats:

Race: High Elf
Birth Sign: The Apprentice
Health: 80
Magicka: 310
Endurance: 155

Favored Attributes:
Intelligence
Willpower

Major Skills:
Armorer
Blade
Block
Blunt
Hand To Hand
Light Armor
Mercantile

Not that you really need to know my stats, but I thought it might aid you in helping me decide. Ok... Should I or shouldn't I level up?

On one hand, it's nice to be a high level, because nicer things appear in the game.
On the other hand, it sucks, because townspeople die and I can't get my Intelligence or Strength etc. etc. up.

What should I do? I know it's ultimately my decision, and it depends heavily on how I want to play the game, but I want to know what people who have been through the game a few times think I should do. Suggestions?

Frankly, by putting all three strength related skills in Major, you've scuppered any chance to build strength quickly. Not a problem if you're going pure mage though, the only downside is the limit on carrying capacity.

The three attributes I'd recommend concentrating on are Intelligence, Willpower and Endurance. Having Block and Armourer as majors makes the latter more challenging, but should be OK.

Use Alchemy then Mysticism and Conjuration to boost Int by 5 points per level, Destruction to boost Willpower along with Alteration and Restoration, but use the last two as little as possible. You'll need to increase Alteration to 25 to finish the Bruma and Cheydinhall recommendations, but would advise using destruction as much as possible. To this end I'd advise doing the Skingrad Recommendation first, making sure you get the 'weak' fireball spell from Adrienne. I'd also recommend doing all the recommendations before leveling up, if you do so that fireball spell will see you through. The biggest danger will be the Anvil Recommendation, being a High Elf makes you very vulnerable to the Rogue Mage, I ended up doing what I was told, and leaving her to the two Battle Mages. Once you have access to the Spellmaker In the Arcane Uni., use it wisely.

My advice in how to level up is to buy Heavy Armour skill (join the Fighter's Guild to get the best deal from the Orc lady in Bruma), then finish by blocking and using repair on everything you can. This way you should be able to boost Endurance, Willpower and Intelligence by 5 each level up. Once you've got your intelligence, Willpower and Endurance to max, and destruction to 75+, then let rip and level up as much as you want, focusing on Strength and Agility.

Yeah.. I wasn't really too worried with HOW to level up, I was just wondering if I SHOULD. (Thanks for the advice, though. I'm gonna do the multipliers and stuff right this time, for when I [if I ever] do decide to level up.) I dunno.. I'm fine fighting the tougher creatures and whatnot, I just don't know if I WANT to level up. 'Cause like I've said before, I like the nicer stuff the game has to offer, but I don't want the people to die and crap like that.

Also..
Spoiler: I just finished the Arena quests and I got the "adoring fan". Is he good for anything? I think my friend said that he witnessed him die once, and then when my friend travelled somewhere, the fan reappeared. Does that happen? I noticed he doesn't give me much aid when I'm fighting (and in fact runs away). I think I'm just going to buy a house and put him in it so it's not so lonely in there. :p

The Adoring Fan does respawn if he's killed, not sure where though.

Probably near the Arena. Or wherever you fast travel to.

since the fan runs away - almost EVERY time plus never helps
(except just to lure more monsters to you) I mainly jus say bug off! He does get annoying fairly quickly anyway.

& personally, i think it makes it more convenient for whomever to do as many (if not all) the quests while staying at lvl 1, this way you can stock up on points to your skills w/o having to worry about harder adversaries affecting any quests. Then when all the critical ones are done & you're pretty content with the lvl of your skills, all you needa do is sleep. then better items/more gold should start comin in.

I just put him in my house. He's there to worship me whenever I go in. :p

Yeah, that's basically what I'm gonna do. The problem is trying to keep track of my multipliers and such (which ones I did for which level, etc. etc.).

This leads me to another question: Does anyone know where I can find a Grand soul filled Grand Soul Gem at level 1 in the game?
