advice for a new player

Post by earthswallower »

Still playing my first go round with DLCE and I need to decide on my 3rd level tier. Currently a level 27 battlemage/trickster and need to decide between warlock, cabalist and shadow lord. I searched the threads on shadow lords and the consensus seems to be that the shadow lord ability is not all that great. (And Shadow Lord ability appears to be the only "new" skill I would acquire). But I really cant tell much of a difference between warlock and cabalist either; will the bonuses really help me that much at this point?

Any advice would be appreciated.

THX!

There is no compelling reason to choose a Cabalist over a Warlock. There *might* be a compelling reason to choose a Shadowlord over a Warlock though.

If you enjoy your Trickster's backstab ability and wish to enhance Stealth.. then the Shadowlord would be preferable. Alternatively, IF you are much more "into" a very offensive melee attack (vs. magical) attack against the strongest enemies, the Shadowlord would also be preferable.

Otherwise the Warlock is your choice (though its a mediocre substitute for a War Witch).

Note that with the Warlock you have one extra learning bonus in Arcane magic. That can enable a realistic in-game top-end skill of 22-24 in Arcane, and that is where the real power in your class combination will be. This is particularly true when coupled with Drainlife. Drop about 6 whirlwinds in a row on ANY opponent and they will die fairly quickly while constantly healing you via Drainlife.

thanks!

Great advice - thank you. First time through I didn't realize how important magic would be and you have answered my question. Guess it's time to spend those points raising the arcane skills!

You could do all three and see how you like each. I created three different saves before I picked my third tier and had about 4 million saved up in XP to boot. This way I could take me Rogue, Fighter, Enchantress, Maurader down the different paths of War Witch, Death Lord, Shadow Lord and not have to build all over. Just wished I had thought of this idea before I took the steel option after Vortauge.
War Witch is plan awesome with the bonuses you get. Getting the required armor and shield for the Deathlord is going to be tough. Shadow Lord requirements are not so bad.
Enjoy the game.
