Elder scrolls IV - difficulty with knights quest "wisdom of the ages"

I am addicted to Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion (is there anyone who isn't?) and playing it on PS3 platform. I have had a few problems with some of the quests, the latest being with knights quest "wisdom of the ages". I have managed to get into the last room with the 8 statues and figured out which items need to go into which chests. However, how do open those damn chests to put in the various items?
Also, had problem with Daedric quest "Peyrite" in which I couldn't for the life of me find the 5th and final soul.
Am i being really retarded or what? (finall resorted to walkthroughs which didn't help)

hmm if i remember correctly you walk to the center then grab the item from the chest, walk over to the right statue then place it in there do it 8 times and your done, tip, over each chest when the item lights up i wrote down on paper what piece goes in which chest, takes a little bit but it was worth it
