Leveling to Quickly as a Mage

Post by lifeishell91 »

I usually play pure mages, but they always level up too fast, so that the monsters become way too difficult way too quickly, and I'm not readily equipped for fighting them. This is extremely annoying, and besides, I kind of like being at a low level - only able to cast a handful of spells.

Now I've started another character, as a Sorcerer (pre-defined class), I've only cleaned out two mines, two ayleid ruines, done one mages guild quest and about 3 misc quests, and I'm already at level 10. It only took me a day.

I've installed the Oblivion Adventurers mod, but I need something that can help slow down skill increases so I won't level up as often.

Thanx

EDIT: Please mind the spelling mistake in the thread title.

The "easy" solution would be NOT rolling a caster class or, if you're making your own class, don't take the skills you use as primary skills. This way you won't get closer to a levelup when your casting increases. You'll find monsters are becoming too easy quickly this way though. I'd recommend a mix of used and unused primary skills.

That kind of defeats the purpose of the game. Doesn't anyone know of a mod that will slow down the leveling system?

You are defeating the purpose of the game by trying to change this system. I detest the way Oblivion works myself, but I enjoyed the rest of it anyway. It's intended to be the open RPG where you can go anywhere and do anything at any level. My paladinlike character is in a pinch at the moment as well. Maxed out his combat skills a long time ago and working on the rest now. Monsters become insanely hard as I progress. But such is Oblivion. I think my earlier advice was sound, but oh well...

Good luck!

Lifeshell, there are a host of mods intended to slow down and/or change character leveling. Within the first month of release alone, I counted 6 major entries into the field. As I haven't played in a long time, I can't tell you how many there currently are or what are the best, but you'll definitely get opinions galore up on Bethesda's own Oblivion mod forum. You can find most of these mods at PlanetElderScrolls. Hope that helps.

Level Slow - Planet Elder Scrolls

That mod might help, I don't use it but the reviews seem to be positive

FireFox, that mod was perfect. I downloaded the mod and have it on 'Epic' so I level 5x slower. It's just what I wanted. Thanks.
