Barter Question

Just discovered the game a few weeks ago, I am on vacation now so I finally have time to play. I have a question about Barter. When I offer something, do I have to ask for something, or will they just give me the value displayed on my side?

No, it's like trading.. you put stuff from thier side in their barter slot and the cost of that will be displayed.. you just match it (or go over) on your side, with your belongings and they will trade your barter slot for theirs.. Barter just makes thier stuff a bit cheaper and in some cases you can talk people down in dialogue mode like the servant guy in Vault City.
