Vanishing critical NPC in Tribunal (spoilers for Tribunal MQ)

Post by dragon wench »

Hmmm... I just did some searching and it seems I have contracted yet another unique bug since I found nothing at all on this topic..

OK, I found and forged Trueflame, and then went about my business doing other things. I finally decided I'd delayed my final encounter with Almalexia long enough, so after stacking my inventory with my best equipment and various scrolls and potions I headed off to see the "dear Goddess" ...
Imagine my surprise when I entered her chamber and discovered it completely empty... No Alma, no Her Hands.. nothing...

I tried the placeatpc command, and it turned purple, but nothing happened. Er... any suggestions, or should I just consider myself doomed to not completing the main Tribunal quest?

Have you got 'The Mad God' quest, the one to stop Sotha Sil? If so do that quest and all will be revealed.

If not, what is you current quest for Almalexia?

... isn't the "Mad God/Sotha Sil" after the Nerevar/Blade quest ?

Did you get the blade enchanted after it was forged ?
Did you meet the ghost; get the tar etc...

Galraen -hi.
DW - working on the mods per your "manual add" link.
I even went to the point of extracting the whole mod to my desktop and adding each folder individually ... only about 8 more to install :-)
If it doesn't work, we're on to Round 3 = like a title fight(...and I'm losing on points = no TKO; yet)

No...

I have completed forging Trueflame, that was the last quest she gave me... And now she's vanished..

AS joe Asked, did Almalexia enchant Trueflame?

Have you completed the 'Missing hand' quest and/or 'A show of Power'?

PS OK, more importantly, have you started the 'Barilzar's Mazed Band' quest? There are occasions during that quest when Almalexia is disabled. If that quest has been started then completing it should clear things up.

...wasn't the "Mazed Band" quest given to you by the guy out front ?
I believe he gives that to you before you are allowed to enter ? ... then you get sent in by invitation(...she then wants to meet you) and "her Godness" gives you "Amelexia's light" spell

Then "power"; then "hand"(...Amelexia's quests)
Then you get the blade pieces ... forge it ... then go find that ghost, who needs tar to flame-it ... blow up a wall .... shrine time :-) ... give the tar to the ghost and he enchants it ?
Does Amelexia also enchant ?

I'm going off memory ... I will defer to Galrean/MageLord

That was the sequence to the best of my knowledge.

I think Joe might be right, but the mazed band is the only reference I found to disabling Almalexia (apart from during the Mad God quest).

If all else fails then:

PlaceAtPC, "Almalexia", 1, distance, direction

I have done *all* of Almalexia's quests except "The Mad God."
The reason I can't proceed with the Mad God is because Almalexia is not there.

Just like the walkthrough suggests I:
*received the one piece of the blade from Alma
*received another piece from Karrod
*received the final piece from the Museum after donating a couple of items
*went to the orc in the Craftsman's Hall who assembled the pieces
*went to see Radac Stungnthumz
*found the Pyroil Tar
*returned to Radac Stungnthumz and he enchanted the blade for me..

It says you are then supposed to return to Alma for more instructions...

Granted, I waited quite a while, but still this is Morrowind, and there are no indications this is a timed thing.

I already tried:
placeatpc "Almalexia" 1,1,1

It turned purple, and I received no error messages, suggesting it should have worked... but it didn't... still no Goddess..

Have you tried RA, as Magelord suggested, while standing in the chamber?

What your last post says to me DW, is that there's a script running that disables Almalexia immediately you execute the placeatpc command.

You never mentioned how far you got with the Mazed Band quest.

You could try talking to Gavas Drin in the Office of the Lord Archcanon in Mournhold Temple about "speak with her directly".

Hmm... OK, I'll give RA a try and see what happens. I've usually found that doesn't work with the vanishing NPC syndrome (I've generally had better success with "place atpc" when it comes to the orc in the Balmora Mage's guild).

@Galrean,
as I mentioned, I've finished all of Almalexia's quests. The Mazed Band is done and wrapped up...
I also tried talking to Gavas Drin about "speak with her," it didn't help.

Sorry to belabour the point DW, but the Mazed Band quest and the Mad God quest seemed to be the only scripts in Tribunal that would disable Almalexia, and talking to Gavas Drin should enable her again. As that's not the problem I can only assume that one of the mods you are using is interfering in some way. You mentioned having the Half-Orc vanish on you, that's never happened in all the times I've played the game. In fact I can't recall having any NPCs vanish, so either your game/save is corrupted or you've got a rogue mod running.

If it becomes apparent that talking to Almalexia isn't going to happen, then all I can suggest is using the following commands in the console:

First: Journal TR_SothaSil 10

Second: Journal TR_SothaSil 20

Then: StartScript SothaSilTeleport

A dirty fix to be sure, but if nout else works.....

Regarding the vanishing Orc, apparently this is a fairly common problem. Indeed, from what I've read, vanishing NPCs in MW are not at all unusual. I don't have that issue in this install though, it's only ever happened to me once in a previous install.
So, there's no connection to Alma in this particular case.

It did just hit me that one mod I have installed could be causing a problem. I have a mod that provides rings at startup to instantly level your character (helpful if you don't want to have to go through the whole MQ etc. when trying out a mod). Now... my character has not used any of those rings at all, but it's always possible that something may have gotten messed up along the way, so I'll try disabling it to see what happens.

If that doesn't happen, I will try the codes you mention, thanks for those!

EDIT

*sigh* OK, now I feel dense... I disabled the ring mod and voila!
Still, I was pretty sure you had to actually equip a ring for those disabling scripts to go into effect...
Oh well, I am now making my way through Sotha Sil's domain.. and I have to say it confirms a growing belief I have had about Bethsoft... They really should get into the Adventure genre with RPG elements and label their games as such; they have talent in this area.
In this sequence my char. feels as though she is suddenly "Indiana Jane," but in a positive way. This is really quite well done IMO..
