Dwarf Speed etc.

Post by Garonak »

Does anyone know if there will be a patch/update that will fix the dwarf speed and other racial features?

That is the ability to run along ignoring speed reduction because of carry weight. It was one of the main reasons why I chose dwarf as my pc. The ability to carry as much loot as possible is rather important in these types of games.
Could just be that I'm unlucky, but it doesn't seem like the stability ability is included either, Neeshka resists more knockdowns than me...

Official patches have now stopped, so it's highly unlikely that existing problems will be fixed in the future.

You got the rules wrong on that one. Stability wasn't included in the game, as the engine won't support it without a skill to deal with it, and that was dropped in the new NWN 2 game. The weight thing you got just outright wrong, no matter where you look. Dwarves don't get penalized for armor on speed. Just armor, and that has nothing to do with encumbrance or weight. It is simply due to their racial tendency to wear and get used to heavy armor, which reduces speeds even if you aren't encumbered.

Good thing you've never read Player's Handbook for dnd v3.5 then...
Player's Handbook p14 wrote:Dwarf base land speed is 20 feet. However, dwarves can move at this speed even when wearing medium or heavy armor or when carrying a medium or heavy load (unlike other creatures, whose speed is reduced in such situations).
(My emph.)

If you were referring to ingame rules and not the original dnd rules, then I understand, but as NWN2 is based on v3.5 I just assumed that they would incorporate the most important (in my opinion atleast) dwarf racial trait upgrade from previous ed of dnd.

As for stability... since Knockdown is included and there is an opposed roll I really can't see why they just couldn't give dwarves a bonus on that check.

But since there won't be coming any more updates this discussion won't go anywhere. Ah well... Just means my next character won't be dwarf...

It seems like you're wrong... That is, about the patches anyhow, don't know if the dwarf speed issue and the stability thing will be fixed, but there will be more patches.

Yes, you are correct. It seems the PR release that 1.04 was to be the "last" patch has now been withdrawn, and a beta of 1.05 is currently available.
