Background Trait: Spellcasting Prodigy

Post by Solusek »

I'm not quite sure if I understand how this works... In the description it says
"For the purpose of determining bonus spells and the saving throw DCs of spells you cast, treat your primary spellcasting ability score as 2 points higher than its actual value."
So far, so good. Does this mean that if I have let's say 26 int(including item buffs) which would result in an ability score of +8 it would be treated as +10?

Has anybody tested this trait and/or can tell me exactly how it works?
I'd be glad if you could help me out. Thx in advance.

It is the ability score which gets modified and not the bonus. So if you have X intelligence, it will be considered X+2.

Ok, thx. And does it add to the item boni?
e.g. Headband of Intellect +2/+4/+6

Yes, that should stack, because one of the two bonuses in question does not come from an item. But if two bonuses of the same kind (say, intellect) came from items, only the larger of the two would be counted.

Thank you ;) Then that should be a suitable starting feat for my new wiz.

It is a very good feat because you get the equivalent of a "spell focus" type feat for all spells with that single feat.

Yup, I thought so as well. And you even get some bonus spells depending on your current int score. It is really really nice for wiz to match up a sorcerer's flexibility. Evoker + Spellcasting Prod means you can cast a whole lot of spells per day + you get to choose freely from all spells except the prohibited school. But since that'd be conjuration in the case of an evoker it's not too bad. I just created a sun elf wiz/evoker with 20 int and I'm really looking forward to playing it. Especially since I think you'll get a lot of reference to your int score during the game.

Btw.: Has anybody played the campaign with a sun elf before and can tell me whether you get a lot of reference to your race or not? When I first went through the game with a drow I really got a lot of reference to my "unique heritage" etc. and it was really fun to play. With my Aasimar however I was quite disappointed because you get treated like a common human. Not even the demons notice your celestial blood :(

I've played all the way through as a human, and I'm playing two games right now: one as a drow and one as an aasimar. I've noticed about the same as you. Nobody comments on the race of my human or aasimar, but every so often somebody comments about me being a drow. My guess is that only tieflings and drow get a lot of love that way.

Well, from my experience the elven race gets a lot of reference in general, but Drow in particular, that's right. And I really love that. That's why I was just hoping that maybe the sun elves would get some special reference too, since they're so haughtly and civilized and what not and not very common outside of Evermeet.
