About patching NWN2

I have been told the game cannot be played without the patch.

Is this true?

If so, how the hell can a game be sent out for sale in an unplayble condition?

I was told I would need a patch for Oblivion, too, but I've not got it and the game playes quite adequately.

And do you HAVE to update your video drivers?

My games machine isn't on-line, and I don't want to put it on-line to get it buggered with viruses like this one was, in spite of having up-to-date antivirus.

And if I DO need the patch and drivers, can I get 'em on disc?

It's always wise to have up-to-date video drivers, you can download them from the site of the driveproducer, and burn them to a disc.

As for the patch of the game, i have played the game without the patch just fine for the first couple of hours. I dont know what the patch is supposed to fix, but patching a game never hurt anyone.

The funny thing is, patching your video drivers can. Software is much easier to reinstall if something goes wrong after or during installation. I wouldn't install any hardware driver unless I would know for sure there'd be something to gain.

As long as you don't encounter any graphic issues I wouldn't recommend upgrading drivers. As they say: "never change a running system". If you have a problems with the graphic, try to get them through a friend of yours who can download latest drivers and burn them on a CD for you.

On the other hand, if you are having Virus problems something else is wrong. An Anti Virus program does help you only so far....if you are going online with an unpatched OS and essential software ( Java, browser, etc ) you are allways an easy target.

About the game patches...it's a boon sometimes and a bane too. Probably 75 percent of the games are released early for marketing purposes ( see Gothic 3 for example, totally bugged, even though they released a big patch on the release day ). That's sadly the bane....

The boon are little addons, new content, better gameplay after some time ( I am pretty sure that as we are all human, little mistakes are allowed, so a patch correcting it or them is allways nice, even if it should have been found during beta stage ).

The latest ATI drivers were released the same day as NWN2 I think, so, chances are, they havent tested them with it. I am using them just fine however. As far as the game patch goes, I've not patched my game. No sense if patching an already working game. Now, if it added new spells and whatnot sure, but a performance boosting patch that I dont need will go unpatched.

Actually, it does add nine Druid spells. Nothing earth shattering, but they go all the way up to level nine.

THIS machine, though, had super-duper virus problems, including worms chewing up my programmes - and the worst of it was that I was supposed to be fully protected by McAffe antivirus software.

I shall NEVER use McAffe again. NEVER!

My current AntiVirus system is excellent.

Yeah... I don't think a game should be put out when it has a lot of bugs. Especially when the patch is issued so damn soon after the game is released. It's just downright unethical, imo.
