Volovoron(spelling error and spoller)

I am currently fighting Volovoron (spelling mistake(s) i am lvl 16 with a katana +3 and a moring star +3 but it keeps on saying"Wepion Inefective" or "My wepion has no effect" How do i go about killing him?
