Black & White : Discuss.

Post by Dreez »

I did a search on the forums for this game, any threads, and couldnt find any
so im creating one. Im sure some of you have played this game, and possibly
even finished it, while some of you got bored at stage 2.

I followed this game through its diffrent stages of creation by lionhead and
it was also this way Peter Molenouix (spelling) became known to me, but nm that.
At the release of this game i was ofc ordering a pre-order and got it way before
it hit the stores, installed it on my computer (which sucked) and started to play.

The thing about B&W was that Lionhead had "promised" a world where you could
play either good or evil god, depending on your choise to actions in the game,
and also raise an equally good or evil pet.
So ofcourse i was tempted in going the evil way, making an evil god which did
nothing but pay attention to his own time and his pet - never to his people.

But this is where the lies about the game surfised. You could not play EVIL
and get away with it. You could not play EVIL and finish the game , because
in the end there would be no citicens left to dance around the totem to
increase your magical powers.

Imo an evil god does not give a **** about if you are missing houses, he
does not care if there´s 5 ppl drowning and he does NOT care if there are
5 sheeps lose in the mountains.

When some citisen whined about "Not enough houses", i killed him, or gave
him to my pet for dinner. This is what evil is.

And another thing that Lionhead said: "There wont be any micromanagement".

Right.... If building house by house, saving drowning fishermen by teaching
your pet to pick them up pixel by pixel aint micromamagement.. i dont know
what is.

I wanted to play B&W as evil god, to have my people fear me to the extent that
they never did anything to annoy me. But i couldnt, eventhou Lionhead promised me.

Anyone else besides me that was hugely dissapointed in this hyped game
where we were promised the extraordinary, but was delivered the ordinary.

I haven't played the game so I can't comment much here but I did see the game demonstrated at a computer exhibition a long time ago. The game does look interesting but to be honest, it's not the type of game I would get into. Does come across as quite strange to me. And yes, that is how I came to know Peter Molyneux too. ;)

P.S. By the way, is this game supposed to be an RPG? I thought that Black & White is some sort of god-game.

It is an RPG where you play the role of a god, good or evil is up to you.

Well, usually, RPGs put you in the role of a character. The part where you choose to play as either a good or evil character is more to an open-ended RPG. Never heard of any RPG that allows you to play as a god. I remember that games like Black & White are usually given the designation as god-games and is entirely separate from the rest of the game genre, from what I recall reading in some of the articles in gaming sites.
