Colossal Cave, on a mainframe. About 1981, I think. Didn't think much of it, still don't.

I grew up watching my Dad play Mario alllll day long, and it never interested me. granted, I was fascinated by Yoshi and the sound he made blowing eggs out of his mouth, but I didn't really discover gaming until I got married and my husband bought Morrowind shortly thereafter. The week we bought it we were housesitting for people with a VERY nice rec room in their basement, and every morning when we'd wake up we'd race eachother to the basement to play Morrowind. I was hooked. I LOVE RPGs. Then he started collecting game consoles - Everything... Atari, Sega, all the nintendo systems... I think we have everything but Gamecube and PS2. :laugh: I discovered the early final fantasies once I realized it was RPGs that did it for me, and since then I've realized my love for all the good oldies - Startropic, Zelda, Rings of Power... ahhhh.

Never really got into the consoles, although every now and then would play with my daughter, the old Nintendo and Playstation stuff.
As far as computer games go, played a little of the first SimCity.
The game that really hooked me, was the Baldur's Gate II, after spending a few months, YES months playing, broke down and got BGI, then had to have a gaming machine to handle all the mods available for these classics. Then my daughter and unofficial son-in-law moved in, and hooked me on Fable and low and behold Morrowind has taken over my spare time. Been playing on Xbox, and right now, I'm searching for a copy for computer, so I can get mods..realize that this is an addiction:laugh: Went out and bought monster machine in the spring to play KOTOR and this should give me no problems to run Morrowind.

I couldn't tell you what game I started on, because my parents owned one of the old Atari systems. I grew up with Atari games (Pitfall, Pac-Man, some Big Bird thing which had very little educational merit so god knows why they got it for me). I don't know what the first game was I played, since they had upwards of 30 games and I played most of them for a while. By the time I was 7, we obtained an NES--which was relatively new but not incredibly new at the time--and we kind of went from there.

For me, Zelda: A link to the past, Super Metroid, and Final Fantasy 1, I don't remember which came first, but it was one of those three. Super metroid sadly I still cannot beat.

As for my first RPG, it was Fallout.

And was anyone besides Des and me thrown off by the thread title?

@Magrus...I dunno, I really liked the Ocarina of Time, I thought that was one of the better Zelda games.

Whatever... It's *only* a bloody title, and this *is* SYM. Since when do title in SYM have to be immediately comprehensible to everyone who reads them?

don't mind me, I've just spent 2 hours working with sailing charts, and I'm exceedingly cranky as a result

My first computer game was The Savage Empire from Origin games, in other words, Ultima in the jungle.

The very first game was for the Nintendo: F-15 city war. Then Campeonato Brasileiro (soccer).

The first game I've played was on the Atari 2600 system: Pitfall, and River Raid (classic).

I know I sure feel better after spending a 10 1/2 hour day at work correcting all of the idiocies at my company. The people deciding on the prices for everything in my department must be on something as they do not make any sense whatsoever.

It is so frustrating knowing that my superiors are incompetant idiots.

@ The Z, I think that may be because you were too young to appreciate the first one fully. When that came out, it was awe inspiring. The versions that came out in the series after the first and second ones truly seem like childrens games to me. I can still play the old ones, but the new ones make me feel like I am playing a game made for 6 year olds. Most of the Nintendo games that I have come across are like that though.

No game has ever gotten me hooked, as I think you mean it. I've never played a game each day, much less for hours on end. It's just pixel-pushing. Human beings are much more fun, and I'll never understand how anybody could find a game more interesting than people. But among the earliest games I found fun enough to warrant playing for an hour, a few times a week, those that come to mind are Ultima III, and Hidden Agenda.

At least I was able to beat that early version of Sargon. Can't say as much for later chess games, unfortunately.

Okay, apologies for my outburst there. I have just drunk a considerable amount of a good Shiraz, and feel *much* happier...

Thing is, my SO and I are taking a classroom-based course on sailing navigation. Now this is really interesting and I'm enjoying it. But... I'm *extremely* bad at numbers, small details, sequential stuff etc... So, needless to say, doing charting exercises is quite draining for me, and I had just finished that when I logged on..

However, Curdis does have a point, give us the respect we are due young uns! Or else you *will* end up as well toasted, dragon-sized snacks

Yeah that's probably it. Plus I was never really into gaming until I got an N64 so I was definitely too young.

@DW...are we talking young as in actual age or as in GB age, because I'd say I'm a semi-oldie...

Unfortunately, (Or fortunately depending on your point of view) I lost my gaming virginity when I was somewhere between 3 and 4 years old (If not earlier). My brothers are 6 and 9 years older than me so they always had the "top of the line" Sega Genesis games.

Things started off with Mortal Kombat. Then Golden Axe, then of course, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (We never owned part 1

). I'm not sure what happened after that, it's quite a blur, but I remember I loved gaming ever since baby-hood.

First got into gaming with the Atari 2600. First games I played on it I think were Combat, Pac-Man, and Beserk, but Defender was the one I got addicted to.

When the NES came out, I was done for after playing Final Fantasy 1. I'd never played a game like that before, and it still holds a special place in my heart.
