Fort Rayles (possible spoiler)

Post by UncleScratchy »

This fort is SSW of Cloudtop in the Chorral region. The entrance door is on the 2nd or 3rd level instead of ground level. You go in and wind around a loop in the passage. Then there are two steel grates, both of which are opened from the the other side - you can see the switches. I can't figure out how to get past this point. I can't find another entrance. Tried moving the switches with telekinesis spell but I've never got that spell to do anything for me. I don't think this place is part of any quests or anything, but I'm trying to explore everyplace I can. Anyone familiar with this place?

i have heard before that this is part of a quest and it can only be done once you get the quest. I'm sorry i don't know which quest though.
Why am I fighting to live, if I'm just living to fight? Why am I trying to see, when there aint nothing in sight? Why am I trying to give, when no one gives me a try? Why am I dying to live, if I'm just living to die?

I don't remember it being a Quest location, though maybe it is. I only did it once, some time ago. It's a hideout for magic users - conjurers iirc, and some quite nice loot.
But, because it was some time ago that I did it, I don't remember how I got past the gates. But I DID. Maybe, just knowing that you CAN get in will help you find the way!
I think I'll go there with my current char and see if that triggers my memory.

EDIT:

AH! NOW I remember! Just took my current char there. The answer is staring you in the face! :D

SPOILER:

Gate to left and right. Ahead, a brazier of fire with two statues flanking it. behind. In front of the brazier, a quiver with two arrows. On the forehead of each of the statues, a bright jewel. All you need is a steady hand and a bow and arrow! Hit each of the gems with an arrow.

Easy!

Thanks a lot! I was positive this place wasn't quest related as I've done all the quests numerous times. Sound like my kind of place as I love killing conjurers/necromancers. Sneaking up pn them and then killing them with one stroke for 6X damage. They never know what hit them.

Forgot to mention:

SPOILER:

Hit the RIGHT statue first, and use the right-hand gate. Only one gate at a time will be open. Make sure you fall though the grid in the floor when you get to it!

Actually I believe I hit the left statue first and then the right and both gates opened simultaneously. I cleared out the baddies on the left first and then did the right. The place was kind of disappointing - small and no good treasure or challenges. Guess the game developers were trying for a more "puzzle" oriented dungeon crawl with this place.

Yes, not a fat lot in there. But frustrating if you can't get in, lol!

Hm. I couldn't open both at the same time, for some reason. I thought I had opened both first time round, but since I couldn't with this char, I thought I was mistaken. I'm glad you were able to do it! :D
