Soloution- Delete all MSN things on your PC, and go download "Trillian."

You should be able to....but Trillian can be horrendously bugged.
Whenever anyone tried to add me to their MSN contact list, I'd only get the message if I happened to be online at the time. It also gave me connection issues.
I still use Trillian for AIM/YIM and have few issues with it, but for MSN I gave up with it for a while.

If you do decide to use Trillian, I wouldn't recommend deleting MSN, you can just use Trillian instead of it, leaving MSN installed in case you do require it again. Trillian is supposed to override the IM programs, it doesn't need them deleted entirely.

You could go for an older version of MSN Messenger and see if it works alright. I'm stuck with MSN 7, since I have Windows 2000 and it works fine.

Wouldn't it be possible to find Messenger on your Windows CD? (Add/remove programs -> add/remove windows components)?

Personally I use Trillian for my ICQ/MSN needs, but then again - I don't IM much outside work (I hate IM programs :D )

Like having a picture.

And if you can't get it working, I still have the install for MSN 7, as I refuse to get the latest version. Why? Because I don't like the idea of those sounds, as they'd cut through music and annoy me. ;)
