can i play kotor?

Post by lord-phoenix »

HI,
I want to play kotor because it looks like a SWEET game, but im not sure if my GFX card can handle it.
My CPU is
Intel P III 1 Ghz
256 RAM
intel 82810e w/32 MB

Can someone please tell me if imy CPU can handle it, because onthe box it says that t&l capabilities are required, and im not sure if i have that, or if i really need it.
Thanx

Hi lord-phoenix, welcome to the forums. :) Hope you enjoy your time here. :)

Your processor seems to have met the minimum requirements so I think you'll be fine. :)

Your RAM is above the required specs. You'll be fine here.

I take it that you're using an integrated graphics system, is it (If I'm wrong, correct me here)? Well, if that's so, I suggest not putting all the graphics settings to the maximum. Put them all at the minimum for smoother gameplay.

EDIT: Had to correct some spelling mistakes.

I use an integrated Intel graphics system and Kotor 2 pretty much runs fine, with a lot of the graphic settings at maximum, but there are certain areas of the game where it lags alot, but is still playable. I'd recommend turning off the fancy extra stuff though such as shadows and grass and also make sure you have updated drivers.

Erm....I take back what I've said. I thought that integrated graphics can't handle most games. Oh well, don't forget to lower both AA (Anti-Aliasing) and AF (Anisotropic Filtering) or just disable both of them. Also disable soft shadows too. Those settings I mentioned will make the game perform slower if activated.

I think everyone agrees the cpu & memory are not an issue.

As far as your graphics card goes.... I played with a 65 meg card with minor issues (no force sight, game lock-ups at known bugged spots). Went to a 256 card for $50 & got a lot better. I would suggest getting a higher card for maximum gameplay. But with your setup you should still have a good time with the game.

Its only really the really recent games such as Oblivion etc. that I can't play due to my integrated graphics. Recent-ish integrated graphics systems can handle most games that are a year or two old, but do sometimes have graphics glitches (such as my yellow water on Fable lol) and quite often you do need to turn off the fancy extra stuff. I do have 512mb RAM and a 3.something Ghz P4 processor though which does kind of compensates a bit for it. There is no way I would buy any game released after 2004/2005 though (without upgrading my graphics first).
