I don't know what to do next? I have cleared the mines, done the ghost's school and mines, rescued Dynaheir from Gnoll Stronghold, etc. I can see the bandit camp but can't go there (as I can see BG) I have gone to Larswood but I killed the all the bandits. I have read the letters from Mulhaney and I killed Tranzig, ahhhh I am now just wandering around it seems with no new screens opening...help please
Thanks in advance

Do you have TotSC installed? Do you have a patch installed? Which patch?
What Chapter are you in?
Have you tried entering the map area called Peldvale, and exiting Peldvale via the northern border of the map?
Or, have you tried entering the map area just northeast of the Friendly Arm Inn, where Ajantis is found, and existing that nameless area via the northern or eastern border of the map?

Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

Chapter?
I am not sure what chapter I am in, how can I tell? I can not even see Peldvale. I do not have Tales of the Sword Coast installed, I have done one of the "all-inclusive" patches from a site linked from gamebanshee.
I have not seen Ajantis, but I will look for him, where is he? Is he in the Friendly Arm area or north?
Thanks for all your suggestions and I look forward to more help.

*** Spoilers ***
FYI, a new chapter is triggered when certain in-game events happen:
- starting a new game (standing naked with a staff outside of Candlekeep Inn) triggers the "Prologue" chapter.
- leaving Candlekeep (with the scene where Gorion gets smoked) triggers Chapter 1.
- entering the town of Nashkel triggers Chapter 2.
- opening Mulahey's chest (bottom of the Nashkel Mines), and reading the note about Tranzig, triggers Chapter 3.
I'll omit the triggers for Chapters 4-7, to keep you spoiler-free.
To check out what chapter you are currently in, look thru your Journal (hotkey 'J'). Based on you killing Tranzig, and having the Bandit Camp appear your world map, your game should be in Chapter 3. Otherwise you may have some kinda bug.
Some areas are only accessible when entering from an 'adjacent' area on the world map. Many apologies if I am stating what you already know.
In the "BG Walkthrough" portion of GameBanshee.com, check out the world map. To enter the Bandit Camp, try this:
- Goto the "Friendly Arm Inn" area.
- Exit the "Friendly Arm Inn" area via that area's northern border.
- This should reveal an unnamed area to the northeast on your world map (area "AR1400" on GameBanshee's world map). Goto this "unnamed" area.
- Exit "unnamed area AR1400" via that area's northern border. Ajantis is located in the southern portion of this area, btw.
Leaving "unnamed area AR1400", via that area's northern border, should allow you to select & enter the "Bandit Camp" area.
Regarding patches, there are three 'versions' of the Baldur's Gate game:
1. Baldur's Gate (TotSC expansion not installed)
2. Baldur's Gate, and then the TotSC expansion CD separately installed on top of this.
3. Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga (comes with & automatically installs TotSC)
If you got the first 'version', you should have installed the Baldur's Gate patch.
If you got the second 'version', you should have ONLY installed the TotSC patch ONLY.
If you got the third 'version', you should have NO patch installed, because that version is fully patched out of the box.
Not sure which patch you are referring to, check out Bioware.com to be sure what you got is official.

Good, you got to the Bandit Camp. If you opened all the chests there, namely the ones in Tazok's main tent, you should have found a letter regarding a fellow named Davaeorn. Reading this letter triggers Chapter 4, which is required to enter Cloakwood.
So, what chapter are you in? If Chapter 3, then go back to the Bandit Camp, and re-enter Tazok's main tent, and open ALL the containers therein. Grab and read all the letters... one of them should trigger Chapter 4.
And, as in my previous post, I suggest making sure your game installation is properly patched.
