Mods
hey, sorry if this was posted, but i was just reading about some mods that looked to be very useful.(ones that helped with an easier reading inventory, and helping distant scenery look a lot less blotchy), do these slow down the game or do anything to it that otherwise i wouldnt want? also do i have to pay for these mods, thanx

There are official add ons that you may spend cash for. Also, there is an extensive modding community - there is a stickie thread regarding this, in the top of the forum.

Some of them yes, depending on what they do. Some have tons of enemies at once, other have nice graphical packages, which slow your frame rate. But AFAIK the developers will tell you when it does, also you can check the forums (including this one) for tips on isntalling/choosing mods.

Heh, follow these rules:
Do it says it will improve the textures? Then it slows down graphic speed.
Does it says it has "wondrous rooms" or "extra detailed armour with lightning effects" or even "changes the way X or Y looks to a very better look"? Then it steals graphic speed.
Usually they will slow down performance a bit cause mod makers always want something special and they exxagerate in my opinion - placing too many flowers, too many structures, too many textures and too many enemies trying to simulate a harder game instead of changing coding (as in Baldur's Gate Tactics mod, where you would have a better cheesed AI).
I'd recommend you to test them out - they're usually easy to install and uninstall, and they will help you knowing more about the engine itself too, and what the engine can do.

Consider putting your computer's stats up here. Tell us your video card, RAM amount, CPU speed, and Windows flavor. We'll try to help.
