Plancescape Torment - Game crashes when entering The Civic Festhall

Post by Ferris Wheel »

I've recently come to the part of PS:T were you can (are supposed?) to enter The Civic Festhalls to talk with an person about the witch (whats her name again?), the problem is that when I zone in I get 'kicked' out of the game and an error message appars, haven't had any other problems while playing the game.

Got XP, all required hardware for it (the game).

Try emptying your cache folder, found in Black Isle/Torment/cache usually. Just move all the files in there to the recycle bin, and reload the game. Then attempt to enter the Civic Festhall.

Hopefully that will solve the problem - if not, try a clean reinstall: uninstalling the game and then deleting all traces of it from your harddrive (apart from your save games obviously).

Tried...

I tried that but it still doesn't work. It's the same problem as last time I tried to get the game working so I don't think re-installing will help.

The error message says something about:

"[Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library]

Runtime Error!

Program: C:/Program/Black Isle/Torment/Torment.exe

abnormal program termination"

I asked my brother about it, he says it's an error in the coding and that it cam't get fixed, sad, I enjoyed the game up to then.

Do you have the 1.1 update installed?
Or the unofficial fix pack? availablethere
Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode for w98 or w95?

If those don't help I'm all out of ideas. I have xp pro and the game works just fine.

What edition of the game do you have? I.e. how many discs do you have?
