when i aim at the statue with the arrow of extrication it always misses i can hit it with iron and steel but the same aim dosent work for he arrow or exrication. also it doesent seem to kick up any dust so i dont know where it is hitting.

spoileresque

Yeah, I noticed that too. Gee, Mr. Quest Log, thanks for the "take a few practice shots" red herring, you jerk :) I don't have a save game I can go back and check, but I think the arrow of extrication is a bit heavier than iron or steel arrows, so you might need sight in and then aim just a bit higher. Maybe if you sight in with a heavier arrow (dwarven or daedric?) the aim point would be closer. Plus, it's a really long shot, so if your Marksman skill is low it might just be random variation in your shot placement throwing you off, in which case you can save & retry.
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

Save, shoot and reload. I had no marksman skill when I did the quest and it took me multiple trys to get it right. Remeber its a long distance and arrows tend to arch and hit lower then where you aim.

good shootin to ya

It's been a long time for me, but I seem to recall that's the trick. Aim for the top edge of the target or just above, and you get nothing but net. Of course, I used to be an archer, so I just did it because it was habit.
