Quick and dirty way to convert Open Office Docs to MS Word?

Post by dragon wench »

I have just installed MS Office 2007 Beta 2, and I've decided that, in fact, I really like it. So much so that I plan to deinstall Open Office in order to free up some hard drive space.

Problem is.. before ditching OO, I have to go in and re-save all of the documents on my computer which will be a tedious pain in the posterior. I have tried the right clicking "open with" option and I've tried doing the same by going to "properties." All to no avail, however.

Does anyone know of a quick and dirty way to convert them all in one fell swoop?

Can you copy paste the text? (Into MSO)

I know its not quick, but it'll work.

I could do that, but it would likely take as long as just resaving my docs into Word...
Thanks for the suggestion though ;)

lol! :D My technical abilities tend to be dodgy, at best :D

I realised I wasn't as explicit as I should have been though. The problem is that while Open Office will open MS Word documents, MS Word does not open Open Office documents. So, if I remove Open Office from my system without first re-saving each and every MS Word doc I won't be able to open them. And, of course, when I originally saved them, I saved them in the specific Open Office Format, instead of the more universal Word option. (which OO allows you to do).

Since I have a lot of documents scattered everywhere, this is going to be an irritating and time consuming process, unless I can find a way to convert them all simultaneously. So I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good software (ideally shareware) that performs a task like this, or if I'm doomed to spend an entire day sifting through my folders and files

Associate as many possible document formats to MS Office as possible, keep OpenOffice, and convert only when needed.

I check for my Word, but the batchconversion facility does not support the conversion of Open Office to MS Office, but maybe Office 2007 does.

To find out, choose New from File menu, then go to templates. Choose the 'others' and double click Wizard Batchconversion.

Check whether it mentions open office in the drop down menu.
