Hope nobody has talked of this yet. If yes, pure coincidence...
I want/wanted to beat the game on max difficulty, so I chose to keep my character at a low level (by choosing skills that I don't use as major skills) - thereby monsters will remain weak. I originally did this for the sake of fun, but now it's not fun at all.
I mistakenly chose the high elf race with the Atronach sign, and I have problems with acquiring spell absorption items. The spell drinkers amulet obtained in the mage guild quest only gives me 9% spell absorption at level 1. That gives me only 59 spell absorption (I can still get easily killed before my magicka charges up). Now that I can't enchant items with constant spell absortion effect (as I orginally expected), I really wonder what else in the world gives me constant spell absortion? Brewing potions of restore magicka and visiting temples everyday really starts to bore me now..
Btw, is it true that you can enchant items with 20% chameleon each with grand(or black) soul gems/azura star?
I tried the beta patch, and it removed spell stacking with weakness to magicka. It just sucks that the game attempts to remove all possible cheats that "breaks the game", something that was really fun in Morrowind.

I rather like the sign of the Atronach. Of my three chars I've played the last two have been Atronach signs. You can't rely on the Spell Absorption feature much. If it occasionally works in your favor just take it as a nice surprise. I rely on homemade restore majicka potions and welkynd stones mostly. There are various amulets and rings that help you absorb more majicka that you will eventually find. Homemade restore majicka potions can be awesome. I was making potions that restored 23 points of magicka for 78 seconds. Thats a lot of magic regeneration and you have to blast away just to keep the magicka bar from being constantly maxed out. These potions can be made for free or for a couple gold. Atronach sign means getting good at alchemy quickly, which isn't hard at all. Start collecting blackberries, Steel Blue Entoloma Caps, Void salts, Bog beacon Asco Caps, flax seed, Stinkhorn caps, fire salts and Water Hyacinth Nectar. Steal them, buy them in shops or seek them out in the forests and marshes. Your potions should only weigh 0.1 or 0.2 pounds each so you can carry lots of them. Also go into every Ayleid ruin you can find and take all the Welkynd stones. I like to gulp down a fortify magicka potion before using the stones. Great in a pinch but they weigh 1 pound each. I like to find a nice safe perch near a bandit camp and snipe them with ranged destruction spells or on the opposite side of an Ayleid gate (the one's with a small circular opening in them) and blast away with a ranged fire ball spell at lichs and zombies. Great way to train up.

I now figured that I sort of played my character with the wrong strategy. Getting 100% spell absorption is still important IMO. If I were at level 30, I'd probably be getting 26 SA from spell drinker amulet, and 15 from a random sigil stone (in stead of getting 9 and 7 respectively). That would greatly increase my chances to aborb any incoming spells.
