levitation

Post by REal953 »

i was walking through the imperial city and this nod guy said something about the empire putting a restriction on levitation spells. Then i realized that i had not seen any levitate spells.
Are there any in this game

I read somewhere that the Levitate spell in Morrowind made things very easy for a player, as you just cast it and float high above your enemies, laying waste to anything that moved. I never played Morrowind through, but apparently the debvelopers at Bethseda decided to take that option out of Oblivion, so I wouldn't expect to see a Levitate spell in the game.
On the other hand, I'm fairly sure there would be a Levitiate mod somewhere along the line.........

there is no levitation spell because of the fact stated above but yes there is a mod i believe that puts all those spells back in the game and lets u add any enchantment you want to armor...or somthing like that.

No to levitation in the game, but not for the reasons stated, here. It simply gave very ugly results given the new graphics engine. I saw an example of this, and instead of seeing 3D models from on high, what you saw was a few flat intersecting lines. Has to do with narrowing planes of perspective, or so I was told.

That's interesting. I don't know much about graphics, but I DID wonder if graphics problems were the reason, given the amount of detail, and the fact that such detail would not only be viewed from above, but also in a much wider area, and at various levels of height. I should imagine it could be done, but would cost a huge amount of memory - to say nothing of the work involved!

The issue with levitation is that cities are their own separate cell (or in the case of the imperial city 9 cells) that isn't rendered unless you are inside the city, so if you were able to levitate over city walls the cities wouldn't exist. By the same token when you're in a city nothing outside that cell is rendered, there are a couple places where you can see the results of this with the proper athletics skill by jumping over city walls.

The main reason was that the game is using speed tree system in its engine....and the trees with this system looks awesome but they r not fully rendered i mean its like fake 3d so if u will take a look on them from above u will see just a line not a tree or sommit like that (as was told by fable)...it was in prerelise news :)

if you use the construction set and look at a forest you can really see how flat they are from above.

atleast there are no more...

Lol i miss levitation , but one thing i dont miss are the horrible cliff racers that attacked my cool walkie floatie guy. One spell i miss is that cool recall spell i know we now have fast travel but i liked locking my doors from the outside then teleporting into my main base of operations.

There was a MW mod that removed cliff racers. But you can't put levitation in Oblivion. ;)

Now there, you go, using that darn 'c' word. You do understand, of course, that now I have to find a way to put levitation back into Oblivion.
The same darn thing happened in MW. "You can't make a portable teleportation system in MW because teleportation can only be done to fixed locations." Well, I found a way to do that, and I'll find a way to do this.
The problem with can't is it's in a really, really small place, and very hard to find.

Welcome to it. :D

Ah, but I never wrote that. Can't pin that one on me, copper!

Bet you can't find it. ;)

Now, if you can put levitation back in, the question remains: will there be anything worth seeing, once you can levitate? Or will you simply be looking at a lot of lines?

Hey, I just said I'd take care of the flying bit. Whether or not it turns out to be fun is somebody else's problem :D
