HotU: Quick Question

Post by Stormsigma »

Not sure if this is a spoiler or not, but at the very beginning where the Drow thief steals all your gear, can anyone tell me whether or not there'll be a point in the HotU expansion pack where I get my darn stuff back?

Near the end of Chapter 1 you will find a chest with it all in :) By then you might find that a lot of the stuff you now have is a lot better though but its still handy to get it back for the odd item that is still useful and for stuff to sell for a bit of extra cash.

Ummm...I finally got there, and instead of all my stuff, I found a chest with a few of my single gems, one suit of armor, and a couple other worthless doo-dads I'd been carrying around!!

To say I feel cheated is an understatement. I had roughly seventeen or eighteen magic bags filled with items, weapons, wands, staves, and armor, and now that's all gone.

Whoever thought this element of the game up was stupid. How terrible.

That happened to me too, in one of my games. It's odd because I've played HOTU before and I usually get all my stuff back, including the magic bags, but the last time I played, I got everything back BUT the bags. The contents were all there, just the bags missing.

I quite often have the odd bag go missing but I've never had most of my stuff vanish. Just the odd thing here and there - I assumed its because the chest is full lol

Well that was just it. I had like eighteen magic bags full of gear, but had several loose items like quartz crystals and a suit of armor I'd just found.

So, when I opened the chest, that was all that was there. Several quartz crystals, that suit of armor, oh and the portable door from the end of Shades of Undrentide. All my GOOD stuff is gone.

What an absolutely terrible design. Whoever thought this bright idea up needs to be shot, ESPECIALLY since by the time I got to the Drow City, the merchant and the weapons guy there were charging massive amounts of money for their goods. I could have sold some of my old stuff and had plenty of cash.

Oh well, all in all, it's just a game, no real reason to get worked up about. At least none of my spells were taken.

I don't think it was designed to be that way; like I said, I've played HOTU several times and got a) all of it back or b) all of it back sans the magic bags. It doesn't really stop you from continuing the game, but I'm tempted to say it was some sort of bug. Did you try saving and reloading? Patching?

Well, I didn't do either of those things, the game has worked fine up to that point (and past that point too) so I didn't really think to do that. I DID walk away, then come back and open the chest again, but it was still empty. Ah well, I've already built myself back up and am nearing the end of Chapter II of HotU, so I guess it doesn't matter now. But there are times when I'll run into something like a monster casting disease or poison on me and be mad that I don't have some items I'd had where I'd have been able to equip them and be immune to those things.

HotU Quick Question

The first time I played HotU when the drow stole all my stuff, leaving me naked and almost penniless I was so ticked I went back to my saved character in SOU and sold all my stuff, then saved character. When I played then I had plenty of money to buy top of the line. It was kinda funny cause when I found my stolen chest some of the things I sold were in it. Next time I played I did not sell anything I wanted yo use in the next game, but where the chest was full this time there was only 1 or 2 items I considered important. I had a lot of really neat stuff and I was totally tiffed someone thought this was a good idea. I understand the chest will hold only so much, but what ever decides what will be saved and what will be discarded needs some serious work. I felt the same way in BG2. When I woke up in prison and escaped the first thing I wanted to do was track down my stuff WHICH was not there.

Devila ... who was glad to see this thread where she could vent. LOL

That's just the thing, though - I always thought the Drow chest was supposed to hold ALL your stuff, and not just random things, and I have played games where I got all of it back, including the Magic Bags and worthless things like Quartz crystals.

No, its a glitch that seems to happen. Sometimes all your stuff is there, other times things are missing that should be there (even after scrolling through all the pages).
