Weighing his option, Halgrath tries to think of something to say without raising too much eyebrows. Remembering the earlier threat of being 'discreet', perhaps he should pose as a lost traveller seeking information.

"Greetings sir. My companion and I were separated from our main group and we wound up here. May I ask where is 'here', as we are not familiar with these regions?

(Sorry about the post delay. Annoying work schedule... :p )

The guard responds warily, "This town is Thorpedene. I'm no maker o' maps, so I can't tell ye that much more. On the other side of the town is the mountains, there's lots of forest and the rest you saw gettin' here."

"Thorpedene? Well, I must apologize because of my limited geography knowledge too. Say, is there perhaps any tavern or the likes in this town that my companion and I may wind down? And perhaps get some help or information?

Halgrath hopes to get some more conversation to somehow reassure the guard...
(sorry for the late reply, having a depressing time at work too :( )
Don't worry about it, we're all human, and some of us have lives. Besides, Rav took his time replying too...

Anyway, good luck with the problems, and if you want to talk, I wouldn't mind, and I'm sure Rav is the same.

Yeah, sorry to hear about your troubles Darkwolf. :(

Feel free to PM either of us if you want to talk...

"Aye, where there be a town, there usually is a tavern of some sort. The one here can be found in the centre of town, it's called the Golden Tankard. Now, I'd better be getting back to my duties. Enjoy your stay in Thorpedene." The guard walks off back to his post.

Well, so much for trying to get the guard to talk longer. Not much left as an option but try his luck in the said tavern. It was as the guard said, right in the center of the town. Being a small town, the tavern at least was recognizeable.

"Golden Tankard is it? Let see if there's something to be learned here"

Thanks Rav, DJ. I'll pm you guys :)

Right, you enter the Golden Tankard. It's quite a big, but darkly lit room. On the opposite side of the room is a bar, with a giant of a man cleaning mugs behind it. There's lots of tables between you and the bar, though most of them are not directly in your way. The tavern is about half full, with many people chatting amiably to their companions, sitting at the various tables. Of course, there are also the standard shady characters found in the darker corners and the odd person supping away at their drink on their own, whether or not they're actually waiting for anyone.
There seems to be a bunch of armoured people pestering the bartender at the moment, perhaps they're mercenaries or thugs, you can't tell from this distance.

Halgrath went right towards the bartender with the intention of ordering something. He isn't sure what else he could do here. Damn, i'm not good at this. Probably the drow would have figured out something if he's here, he muttered to himself

"Bartender, what do you have here? Anything for a traveler to quench his thirst?"

p/s
uh Rav, any suggestion to what should a lost traveller do here? Sorry

Kron continued to follow Halgrath. He had waited until Halgrath had proceeded on ahead, until he silently followed closely behind. Just short of the gate, as Halgrath was talking, Kron cast invisibility upon himself. He rushed through the gate after Halgrath, following him to the tavern. Realising his spell was almost off, he rushed into the toilets, found an empty seat and promptly shut himself in there. Waiting until the spell was finally off, he pulled his cloak back over himself, and left the room. He did ont want Halgrath to know he was here, so he went over to a vacant corner of the tavern.

He had followed Halgrath because he could easily be found out as a stranger. At least this way, he had a bodyguard, and even better, he did not even know.

The bartender pauses in washing his current mug and ignnores the armoured folks pestering his for a moment.
"Aye! Welcome to the Golden Tankard, traveller!
We have a fine selection of drinks for the paying clientele"
, glares in the direction of the armoured folk. "Why, it all be written on the board behind me." He points to a sign that lists a long selection of food and drinks.
"I'm sure most of what ye can imagine is sold here, my friend! Make a choice, take a seat and it'll be brought to ye shortly."

Looking at the board, you can see several options, ranging from a basic gruel and watered down drink to an effective feast with drinks to match. They must get a big range of people in here.
One of the armoured people seems to take affront at all the attention the bartender is giving you and wanders over.
"You new to these parts?", he says.

Kron goes unnoticed, even though his Invisibility spell didn't last too long, he must have been very quick in getting to his chosen destination....

Halgrath is not sure what to make of the armoured man. He maybe a guard or something, or perhaps just another mercenary getting too much wine.

"Yes, not by choice but rather by an unfortunate circumstance, dear sir"

"Sir?" he mocks and chuckles as if to some joke only he knows. "If you're here by accident you'll have no trouble getting back out of these parts, will ya?"

"Well, yeah that too..." Halgrath muttering as something crossed him mind....

"Say, I don't really remember seeing any nearby town. What kind of town is Thorpedene by the way? A mining frontier?"

" Your right for the time being we should probably go ahead of them, there in good hands, the longer we delay the more of a wait Sterwick has to find out about his past."Sesshomaru gathered up his equipment and armaments. "Alright then were off we'll leave them a message telling them of our trail to follow and were they might meet us again, lets go....."

In one of the further corners of the Golden Tankard sits a man, quite like any other, but for the fact that his hair is pure white. This isn't very noticable, since that particular corner is darker than most of the tavern. In front of the man is a tankard of ale, untouched.

He has been watching the newcomer quite intently ever since he entered, noticing his air of naivété. A priest, quite obviously, and a follower of good, he guesses. Though which god is hard to see just yet.

He decides to wait a bit more to see if the events unfold in a, for him, favourable way before intervening.

@darkwolf, "Yeah this is like a border outpost with mining too. We gets the finest mithril outta 'ere! Just watch out for fer those damn goblins 'round here, stealing everythin' not bolted down. Don't think you can get away with stealing, either! Not unless ye need gutting anyways.

@Az, nice post. :)

@Slade,
Sh'rarn says, "Perhaps you three should go on without me, I'll help the dwarves regain their feet and watch out for our missing companions".

"Retrace his foot...?! Hang on why do we have to tramp around grabbing at lose threads of memory while the might-as-well-lay-down-and-die drow is out having adventures with his companion." he looked dissapointed and grumbled some more before adding "Probably killed somone already"

"Well, many thanks for the warning. I've had my shares of those goblins too. My travelling band, right after leaving Isthar, we had some encounters with them...."

"It's kindda ironic though. I believe it was near a small mining village when we were attacked. Our party got separated back then. Those goblins probably was raiding the mine for its gems....rubies and the likes..."

Halgrath tried letting it slipped hoping to get a clue on the gem he and Kron was supposed to retrieve. Besides, that may lead to more clue on where they are. Although, it could be a double-edged gamble....

Though he couldn't make out the words too well over the general chatter of the tavern, the man with long, white hair was sure the strange priest and the armoured man were discussing the town, by the looks of the armoured one's face, and the priest's open, curious demeanor.

...did the priest just mention a ruby? The white-haired man hadn't heard, but was somewhat skilled at reading lips... Would it lead to trouble? Mentioning any kind of jewel in a place like this is never wise...

Indecesion made him irritated at himself, but eventually opted to keep observing.

Sh'rarn tells you to stop complaining... (: p)
Saying your farewells to Sh'rarn, you, Sess and Sterwick set out, your route taking you past the dwarf encampment. They interrupt your journey, gabbling excitedly about something they've found. Travelling back with them to the encampment in order to finally get some peace, they take you to talk to the impromptu leader, Rugnar (remember him?)
"I heard ye were leaving us to help the scrawny human" he points at Sterwick "and ye weren't even going to say ye farewells?" He waves off any possible reply. "In any case we found some stuff that may be helping ye. We would have it kept it fer ourselves, but we found enough to share an' ye have been helping us after all..."
He leads you to a concealed back room, where you see the glitter of many shiny objects. He opens one of the few chests to reveal more of the same. "We found the goblins hoarding this stuff, they seemed to be transportin' it somewhere, who knows where...the only clue we found was this". He shows you something vaguely familiar an Sterwick says "that looks like the last insignia we found...the one that could mark some sort of tribe around here..."
"Yeah, that's what we thought, anyways, we have enough of this to share, so ye are free to take a cut of the wealth".
Once the money has been split, Kazar, Sess and Sterwick are the equivalent of 675gp richer.
You set out again, continuing to retrace your steps.
