Ok so Traven kills himself and fills up the gem, then what?
I made it to Mannimarco without using the gem, but the gem is still in my inventory and the game won't let me drop it
is it used again, or at all?

One Mannimarco is gone, I don't believe that the gem has any function. I wanted to put it in a display case, but as you noted, it can't be dropped.

It's a quest item and cannot be removed. Nor can you do anything with it.
