The TG quest: Misdirection (SPOILER)

I have gained acces to the arch mages room, an I have even stolen his staff. But I'm suposed to leave him a letter from the gray fox, in his night stand. But when I try to do so, the game says that I can't drop quest items. What's the deal with that? is it just a bug or am I doing some thing rong?

Never mind

I found out what the problem was. I was trying to put the note in some drawers in stead of the night stand, so problem solved.
