Exporting and Importing Characters

Post by Greywolfe »

For nostalgia factor I decided to go through Baldurs Gate I and Totsc and decided to try to go through all the Baldurs Gates with the same character by exporting them and bringing them into BG II. However, for some reason I cannot get them to import to BG II. I then tried to duplicate it by making the same character class in BG II and using an editor to make the nessessary adjustments. But some of the equipment I recieved in Totsc are not in the editor for BG II. (eg. Durlags goblet) Before anyone says anything, while it is true that the goblet heals you but causes panic it is Great when used with Kiels Helmet which prevents all forms of fear and panic. Anyway Could the reason my characters are not transfering be to the presence of equipment not available?

I never had any trouble. Export the character in BG I to your character file. Just go into your characterfiles on your hard drive and pull the character you want out (loaded up with whatever equipment you want) and then put that character into your BG II character file. Start a new BG II game with that character. You will have to use the pause (drop all inventory) trick to keep all your stuff though.
:) Once again time to give someone the boot to make room for Coran. LOL :)

At the risk of sounding stupid. How do you do the Pause (drop all inventory trick)?

When you start a new game in BG2, press the SPACEBAR as soon as the loading screen finishes, when the screen go completely black - you must do this before you here your character cry out in pain, all items in your Inventory is deleted by the time you hear it. The panels will appear and you can go into the character's Inventory screen and drop all your items to the ground. Then simply unpause the game and you can pick your equipment back up after the cutscene.
