Quick Key info (may be SPOILERISH)

Post by Fljotsdale »

You guys may already know this, and I just missed seeing the thread: if so, apologies for repeating info.

I dunno if it's a bug, but I decided, yet again  to try a new char. Previously I had gone back to the beginning and started from scratch, but this time I decided to use the savegame from just before exiting the sewer, as recommended.

Did all the changes - Race, Birthsign, Appearance and Major skills, etc, then exited.

Then checked what spells I had: only three, where before I had had several more, which I had put into Quick Keys.

And even though I no longer had those spells, they were STILL in the new character's Quick keys!! AND useable!!

Maybe it is just a bug in my game, but maybe it happens always. Dunno. But I'm a happy teddy.
I shall just have to be careful not to change my Quick slots until I have bought the spells to go with them, lol!

Flare and minor health somthing is the 2 spells that every character will have from the start.

The spells you have from the start after you have selected your major skills, is determined by your major skills. So, if you have not taken that many magic skills, then that is why you don't have that many spells.

Though, I don't know why you would have an old characters spells in your new character's quick keys. That seems very strange.

EDIT: It actually makes some sense that you would have spells in your quick slot that you don't have anymore.
Because, you change your major skills. So, the first time you select your major skills, you might have taken some Magic skills and deployed several spells in your quick slots. Then when you later change your major skills, and remove some of the magic skills, you don't have the spells anymore, but they are still in your quick slot.

Are you able to cast those spells that you do not have, but are in your quick slot? Because then it would be a bug.

Yep, I could cast 'em fine. So it must have been a bug, then.

Not that it matters any more, because I've bought 'em again now, so I can swap 'em in and out of my Quick slots.

Yes, I am aware you always get a few spells. But the char I discarded was high magic, and had spells from most schools of magic (because she had them as Major skills), which the new char doesn't.
