Mannimarco Mage quest important question (spoilers)

Ok im at the Arch-mage quest andim at mannimarco and i cant hit him and i have no clue wut to do with the black gem thing the former arch mage gave me. Does ne one know how to kill The King of Worms Mannimaro?

Hi,
there are two possibilities to kill Mannimarco despite the bug.

1. If you have a high blocking skill and items with damage reflection (such as the Crest of Chorrol (don't know the english word, I have a foreign version)) you could just block him to death -.-

2. Go for a swim, use a potion/scroll/item with underwater breathing and just wait for him to drown (might take 2-3 minutes).

Either way in both cases you won't be able to get in or out (depends where you stand) of the little "island" he stands on where you find him. Starting at the bridge there will be some kind of bone tooths coming out of the ground surrounding it, so make sure to kill him outside and to loot all the treasures before the fight

so what is the bug? this 'final battle' was a big anticlimax for me, i was expecting my toughest fight yet but alas he put up less of a fight than a single dread zombie in face to face combat

EDIT: in fact having quickly scanned a few other forums i'm totally bemused

Did you talk to him? This is often the problem. If you haven't, you can't hit him, he won't sustain any damage. I did this, started blasting away from afar but nothing until I accidentally hit action key and he started talking to me, then he was down in three hits.

Yup, I couldn't agree more. I had more trouble at the Anvil Manor with the Lich than this. Three hits and he was down. I was like - huh? If I remember right this guy comes from Daggerfell and boy was he a disappointment here!
