Spoilers, possibly-

The Imperial City Arena. That is the easiest thing to possibly fight in...if you have fighting skills of course.

You earn a bit of gold each time you fight and win. I think it starts out 100 gold for 3 fights totalling 300 gold, then 150 for 3 totalling 450 gold, so that's 750 gold altogether right there.

I made a LOT of money that way.
Listen up maggots, Mr. Popo's 'bout to teach you the pecking order.
It goes you, the dirt, the worms inside of the dirt, Popo's stool, Kami, then Popo.

The sewers under the Imperial City. I don't think it's spoiler material, since I know a few of the NPCs mention it. Not only is it a relatively close dungeon, but you can go back to a shop relatively easy and sell what you've collected, then go back down, again.

Also, if you have any decent alchemy skill, make the cheapest potions possible using the food stuffs found in crates in Imperial City. Not much money in it, but every bit counts at the start.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
