Cheydinhal: Ulrich evidence (spoiler)

OK, I'm in Cheydinahal and Aldos was just killed by the guard. Garrus has told me to find item to incriminate the Captain by searching his quarters.

Obviously, the evidence is in the locked trunk. Two problems:
1. It's a "hard" lock and I'm not that good at level 3.
2. I have no lockpicks.

Is there no other way to open these locks? I also can't pickpocket the guy, everytime I try he wakes up and arrests me.

Should I just leave this quest for now and return later?

I think you are in the wrong room. Let me guess, you talked to him in the Hall then went up the stairs, to the head room that's rather large etc, etc.

You need to go out of the hall, look at your right at the tower, those are the guard quarters. Enter but do not go up the stairs but look at the two doors - you are looking at the left one, that's yours. Enter, evidence is in plain sight, on your right, on some chest or table, don't remember any more.

Actually no, the second in command who told me not to bring him to the woman, but help him get evidence to accuse him was sleeping in the right hand room. I then went into the left hand room where Ulrich was also sleeping with a guard in there.

Ah ok then. Go out, wait for him to go on his rounds and then go in. There will be a note on the desk on your right as you come in. Unless you have the bug I had, when there was no note but hopefully that's not the case.
