How to reverse disabling Win XP bells and whistles

Post by Ragin Cajun »

I did a search this morning, trying to find a thread I had seen earlier last week about turning off the "bells & whistles" graphics with WinXP in order to free up additional memory to try and run the game. I did this and now have the plain grey screens from Win98/Win2000.

I can't figure out how to turn the "WinXP" desktop back on (with the colorized toolbar, etc).

FYI: When I right click on the toolbar and select properties it shows the colorized toolbar that WinXP defaulted to, but won't show up on the screen. I remember disabling this somewhere else but don't remember where (doh!).

Anyone familiar with this point me in the right direction to turn on the default WinXP stuff?

Thanks,

RIght-click My Computer, select System Properties, click the Advanced Tab, click Performance Settings, click the Visual Effects tab.

It's also under the Display Properties (right click on the desktop and select Properties), I think the settings are under the Appearance tab, then you can select the Win XP or Classic style and the colours.
