Is there a way to figure out how powerfull and enemy is, like how much health, level, etc. If not how do you know if the creature you are about to fight isnt way stronger than you are at that time. In WoW you could see the enemy's level.
Also I kiled a rat and got brain rot, now my encumberence went from 200 to 175 and I cant carry much. How can i tell how much longer the spell will last or figure out how to cure it? I went to the active spells tab but it doesnt show time remaining.

when you engage a monster a little yellow arc appears around your croshair, the larger the arc the more life the creature has. Beyond that nope, though the difficulty in the game scales as I understand it so it doesnt matter when you try and defeat any given creature, it will be just as tough if you are level 2 as if you were level 20. which is a bit annoying if true but hey ho.
if you get something inflicted on you then it should appear in the top right of your screen, again with a yellow arc surrounding it which slowly reduces in time showing you how long t has left. From your wording Im assuming thats not there so im afraid I dont know other than to suggest going to one of the temples in one of the towns and healing up.
