Davenmor Castle innaccessible dungeon gate!

Post by George_K »

In CE, there just has to be a key somewhere because I hex edited my location at the dungeon gate (#9 in the walkthrough) to get through. In there is a large chest with some good chest armor and other items :D

YES! There is a key. It's the Black Key (hex 4A01) and apparently it was from earlier versions of the game, but who has it or where it is without cheating "I haven't the slightest idea!"

When the gate is opened, you have to battle one of those giant worms that has big teeth!

Maybe the Black Knight quest in Bolen Fields is where the Black Key is picked up!

Nope, I've done that quest in the CE. The black knight drops black plate though, which is pretty nice.

My guess is that it's 90% likely there isn't any way to get the key, and there's a 10% chance that the way just hasn't been discovered yet.

Yeh, unfortunately! Anyhow, I'm installing 1.0 to different directory to check what's in that area as opposed to CE and the monster that pops up there.

Ok, played through to the castle dungeon in 1.0, 1.3, and 1.4. There's no chest or monster until CE. Bummer, because the pro fire chest armor would really help in earlier versions.

Somebody submitted to us today that when you return to the castle after Okatta has captured it, if you jump into the moat you'll find a thief there who will drop the key. I don't have a good way to test this, so please post if you find the thief and the key.

Oh, zowee! I do hope that's true!!! Thanks. Maybe that's why the ladder and gate lever was there, other than just goofing around and falling in out of curiosity

It's True! But nothing there until CE. Then there's four or five poison gas spewing Wyrm Gangre, and the chest has some items including a Chainmale Pro Fire +10.

Actually, even though you can hex edit a save and insert the Black Key (4A01), there is absolutely nothing in the room. Also, the Thief doesn't show up until CE!

my character just returned from the Draedoth Temple... I thought I would check out the 'thief in the moat' but there was no thief there... so, I guess if you don't do this quest after liberating the castle, it just goes away...

You only get the chance, in CE, just before entering the castle to confront captain okatta.
