@ Rav, We'll have to discuss that later then. Thanks for the offer. I don't think it's worth it unless we have at least a few more regular members. Once we have more, it may be worth it to do so. The new site might then attract more.
Maybe...
I'm not commiting to donating yet anyway, just a possibility. It depends on how it'd be organised too.
*nods* No worries, it's just a possibility for the future for me too. I don't want to lay down money unless I see obvious growth happening.

I decided to try to fix this lot with a wireless router modem thingy and it has cured lot of the problems. Only it isn't wireless. My laptop won't work without the yellow cable. What am I doing wrong? The PC works except for messenger which seems to have burrowed in somewhere wrong where I can't uninstall it and where it won't open cos it says the version is not compatible or something
@ Fiona, erm, do you have a wireless card IN your laptop for hardware?

I don't know that much about routers unfortunately, though for Messenger, how have you tried to uninstall it? If you haven't already, you could try Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
No I have tried that. It doesn't show up. It is hiding
Are you just using the Messenger that is supplied with Windows or a downloaded version?
The Windows one should be called Windows Messenger and the downloaded one is MSN Messenger I think.
If all the green lights are running and it works with the cord, something has to be wrong with the wireless connection. Personally, I'd take the whole setup to wherever I bought it from if it's a laptop and tell them what is going on. Wireless is just that, wireless. You shouldn't need to have a cord from router to PC. It's a lot cheaper to get a set up like that than buying wireless equipment.

I think it is the one which came with windows, but I might have downloaded it. To be honest I have been fiddling about with this mess nearly the whole week and I have no idea what I have done and not done now. That is why I gave up and bought this new stuff today. Figured I would start again.
Mag, it works for the pc though. Doesn't that mean I am missing something obvious, like maybe telling the laptop it shouldn't need a wire or something?
Possibly, my best advice is to read through the manual for the product. If that doesn't help, take it to the place you bought it from. I used to spend hours fiddling with my Linksys adapter.

Under the Add/Remove Programs, there should be an option called something like Add/Remove Windows Components. That'll bring up a list of things connected with Windows, if you look through there (make sure you click the items on the list and click the Details button when you can) you may find Messenger under there. It will probably have a checked tickbox next to it. Untick that then click OK/Apply and it should uninstall it...
Och you are probably right. I hate doing that though. It is like cars. They just talk gibberish at you and it never solves anything. I could make them take it back but I would then have to get something else and this is better than it was. And it would mean listening to more incomprehensible rubbish designed to make me buy something even more expensive. That won't work cos I'm skint. But it won't help either
I got bored with Sim City.
I'd suggest letting me amuse you, but I will be going to sleep as soon as I finish up my game.
@ Fiona, Yeah. Frustrating, isn't it? You may find something basic you overlooked. I know I had to randomly "repair" my IP address with that wireless thing. It could be something like that, or a firewall problem maybe.

@Fiona, You could also look at the maufacturer's website....
They might even have a forum where you can post a question. *shrugs* If not, an FAQ, email tech support or some other facilities...
I did have a quick look but it made no sense to me. And I phoned them. They tried to tell me there was something wrong with the phone line. T'aint so. I have no trust in these people. A lot of this trouble came from them making me put the Pc back to the factory settings and refusing to come out unless I did. I knew it was the graphics card they put in last time but they wouldn't listen. By the time they agreed with me I had lost all my stuff (again ). And when I tried to get some of it back this happened.
If it weren't for GB I'd buy a quill pen and have done with it
Heh, since I got hooked on the internet, my hand writing has become more and more horrendous as I get better at typing. I hope you can figure out what is wrong with that.
Must be off for the night now. Goodnight folks!
