Okay, so the other day, I was in the theatre, waiting for Munich to start, and my mind started to wander. i started thinking about how cool a KOTOR movie would be. Then I started thinking about the inherent difficulties in making such a film. The largest problem would be that you'd have to make a 2 hour movie out of a game with about 20 hours of story, so certain characters and plotlines would have to be shaved off.
Naturally, such a movie will never be made (GL has been quite clear that there will be no further SW movies), but speculation is fun. For that reason, I thought I'd open a thread where we could bounce ideas around on this. Which characters would you keep? Which would you ditch? What changes would you make to the story, if any? Who would you cast as the characters?
For me, I would argue that for the sake of story, you'd have to keep Bastilla, Carth, Canderous, Malak and Revan. I would argue that you'd also need Jolee, T3, and HK, if only to because they serve as the "heart" of the story (the same reason why Han Solo existed in the original movies, or why Batman needs Alfred; you need characters with differing moral views to bounce ideas off of). Juhani, Mission, and Zaalbar, I believe, would have to be shaved off (Carth, in my opinion, is also pretty close to being disposable) for the sake of time.
What say you?

Uhhhhhh, since when did movies have to be only two hours long? I remember hearing one time that there was this 16 hour long movie, and it was apparently a really good movie.
Anyways.... I don't think that any of the party members should be taken out, because (for most of them, anyways) they are needed to advance the plot (eg. you needed T3M4 to get into the sith base on Taris, you needed Jolee to get you through the force barriers on kashyyk, and you needed to solve that whole juhani incident to become a padawan). Having more main characters means more variety in the movie, and in that way it would be good to keep them all. (except Trask Ulgo, if he really counts as a party member)
I think that the idea of a Kotor movie would overall be pretty cool (i mean, the gameplay had a total of like, 80 minutes of lightsaber fighting
), but there would be too many independant variables to control. I mean, how are the movie producers to tell us whether Revan was male or female, whether (s)he was jedi or sith, whether (s)he was a jedi guardian, sentinel, or consular, what kind of personality (s)he had, what colour lightsaber(s) (s)he had (if any),whether (s)he was a psycho berserker, a gunslinging mercenary, or a stealthy assasin. All these things that were determined by us, the gamers, would be up to the producers to decide. I mean sure, they could take a survey asking people, but it still wouldn't satisfy everyone's original oppinion of who Revan really was.
Yeah, well, there's my oppinion: a good idea, but a good idea that requires alot of thought.

True...
Considering the fact that there's a lot of dead space in the game that isn't really necessary, like the fact that you have to fight a dark jedi at the end of every planet, or having to deal with nord constantly, a movie would be able to sum these things up pretty easily. It's virtually be the same as the traditional Star Wars movies. But wouldn't it be epic if the main character did end up turning to the darkside? I know we've all seen this in Revenge of the Sith, but even Vader turned good at the end of the sage. I just think it'd be an awesome idea. Screw the company, a new film crew should figure out loopholes to make it happen. Hell, I'd deff watch it and I think most everyone else would too. :speech:

I wouldn't watch it, seeing as I know how the story will go and I'm probably better off just replaying the game then spend money on a movie which I already saw on my computer screen. Look, I often thought of an Deus Ex movie and what not, but in the end it is a lousy idea. First of all, you would have to change the movies name. Ex. you see a movie with the name Icewind Dale, based on the game => you just know it is going to suck. Second of all, you would be putting an RPG, a game about choises, into a movie form, no choises.tpkuncensored wrote:Hell, I'd deff watch it and I think most everyone else would too. :speech:
Take elements from the game if you really want to (plagerism?).
BTW: tpkuncensored, what's with the size?
