Neverwinter Nights - Kingmaker

Post by mammu »

I have installed the original Neverwinter Nights, Shadows of Undrentide, Hordes of the Underdark (Gold Edition), then the Kingmaker module (Kingmaker, Shadowguard, and Witch's Wake). When I went to start the game (by starting Neverwinter Night Gold), I got an error message that said Neverwinter Nights created an error and would close. I got a dialog box that sent an error message to Microsoft, then the game closed. I have already played Neverwinter Nights Gold all the way through and had no problem that I recall. I played it quite awhile ago and never had a problem. Has anyone else had this problem or do I have to contact Tech Support? Also, Kingmaker does not have to have an Internet connection, does it? There is nothing on the box or the little manual inside that indicates this. Please help if you can.
Thanks.

This is something you might want to try asking BioWare's tech support about. I'd only ask if you've patched the gold edition. I know the Pirates of the Sword Coast module requires version 1.66. The other modules might require a version higher than what's on the gold edition.

Finally, all of the premium modules require an Internet connection. That's how BioWare authenticates that you've purchased the module.

To SWCarter,
Thank you for your reply. I do have version 1.66+ of Gold Edition. Unfortunately, I do not have a clue as to how to connect to the Internet to play this game. You see, I am not very computer literate when it comes to the Internet. I just turned 63 so this "old" lady needs lots of help and all of you people who have helped me in the past are so very good and patient. If you would try to walk me through the connection, I would be very appreciative. I have also posted a thread at Tech Support. I will check there after I am finished here. Thanks again for your reply. Hope to hear from you soon.

if you are already connected to the internet then clicking the update option when you first start neverwinter nights should connect to the internet and update it if necessary. not sure about connection while playing though as never tried that.

Well, I assume you're connected to the Internet when you post here. As long as you keep your connection active when you start up NWN, you shouldn't have a problem.

From your first post, it sounds like NWN is crashing when you start it up. NWN doesn't connect to the Internet to authenticate a module until you start the module, so that's probably not your problem. What you could try to do is uninstall and reinstall NWN and the modules. Install NWN first and see if it starts up, and then if it does, install the modules. If NWN starts crashing after that, then I have no idea what the problem might be, and your best bet would be to contact BioWare's tech support.
