The Continuation of an Era!!
I never forget where i was and when i first read that Interplay was shutting down the Van Buren Project and Black Isle Studios. In fact, i read it right here, on Gamebanshee.com... I was devastated. For several years i had put Fallout three on my wishlist for all occasions, and the people at my local software store knew me by front name, because i was down there so often, looking for it. Interplay broke my heart, and i truly lost something that i held dear. I joined a community that banned interplay, because i felt so betrayed. Fallout 3 was dead, and it still is. Bethesda is working on it, but we all know that it isnt going to be anything NEAR what BIS was working on, they didnt even agree to using the work that JE Sawyer and the others had done.
But i just read something amazing. Brian Fargo, (we all know him) has started his own company, and he has hired several people from the original Fallout team!! I realise that it isnt new news, but i didnt know right know, so i figured that someone else didnt know either. It is our DUTY, as Fallout fans, to support this new company. InXile is it called, and i intend to buy every single product that they release, and never buy another Interplay merchadise!!
I know you feel the same way! and you must help Brian Fargo and the others to create another, even better, RPG series! Then, and only then, can we play another game with the same passion, that we felt in Fallout and Fallout 2!!!

That would mean buying "The Bard's Tale", wouldn't it? I read some reviews and while I don't like the idea of having another action game with RPG-elements sitting on my shelf I'm interested in the humorous part of the game. I don't know if I'm going to buy it. But one thing I know for a certainty: I won't buy any game a company makes just for the purpose of supporting that company. That said, do what you want, but don't expect of me to do likewise only because I'm a Fallout-Fan.

Well, i have a thing for people being treated unfairly. Life is unfair, i know, but someone has to change that. I have banned Interplay because of the way they treated their employees who were working on the Van Buren Project, and the employees at Black Isle. Thats what i mean when i say duty. We have a duty as human beings to fight injusticem, and we have a duty as part of the Fallout community, to support those who fights our cause.

And who gives me the assurance that they "fight our cause"? Perhaps he founded that company only to make some money? They made one game and that one is far away from a Fallout 3 or anything similar.

I doubt that the first game BIS made was a hit either. Back then, they were riding on Interplays fame and fortune. Yes they made one game, but how many games can be expected in three years. They probaly needed Bards Tale to raise some fast money, so they had some funds to sponsor their next games. It is too early to condemn them, and you are probaly thinking that it is also too early to vouch for them, but everyone agrees that BIS made some serius Dr.Whopee games, and this is the best chance we have to experience that again. I am not in any position to say that you are a bad person if you dont completely agree with me, but for these people (and not least Brian Fargo) this might be last call. When i am supporting InXile, i am not supporting them just to support them. I am supporting them because i belive in them, and i would be very surprised if i was the only one.
Apart from that, i am a very nostalgic person. Fallout 2 was my first Adventure RPG, and i find a beauty in this game, that i have never experienced before, not in WoW, not in NvN, not in Fable, etc. And i think that the future generations of gamers really deserve a chance to play something like it.

Okay, had to check the forum rules, especially the one concerning marketing.
[QUOTE=Forum Rules]

This restriction includes links to websites in member posts, and in member signatures. The GameBanshee Classifieds have been created to provide members a forum in which they may offer their personal property for sale to other members. Businesses are not permitted to advertise in the Gamebanshee Classifieds. In all matters, let common sense prevail. If you are unsure, PM the site administrator or a moderator for clarification. Posting advertisements without permission can and will result in the loss of posting privileges.

Now, IMO, and this is only my opinion, this thread is very close to marketing, but not quite, hopefully it will not turn agains the rule above
And then to topic:
What proof you have that they are going to do something as legendary and good as Fallout? And if we do not have anything that proves their intention, why should we support them and buy games we don't probably like, just that we have a chance to someday get that kind of game?

Unlike what you have stated after this post, I still get feeling that if I do not buy their games, I'm very bad person because I do not help people who has been treated "unfairly".
I have put " around the unfairly, since I do not agree with you that much. Yes, Interplay fired the whole BI, but only because they were bankcrubt. I believe this wouldn't have happened if the financial situation had been better.
Also, if we start to think that way, then we should help everybody else who has suffered same fate. So, why are these persons different
This post is not meant to offend anybody, but my point is, why should we support someone for the reasons stated above.
If I could get some quarantees that they are going to develop something as good and similiar to Fallout, I would undoubtly support them. But until then, I put more hope to Bethesda, they after all own the rights to Fallout

I already checked with a moderator and with Buck Satan, so i am in the clear
.
And i would also like to reply to your post.
You ask me why these people are any different. They aren't, but we all have to start somewhere. Don't get me wrong, i am not implying that you are not already doing something, and by "you" i mean everyone reading this thread. My point simply is, that these people could really use our support, and i am offering an opportunity for the still baffled fallout community, to actually do something. I know that a lot of people are still wondering: should we have done something more?, and this is an opportunity to change that into saying: I made a difference.
And you really do make a difference by supporting these people. Supporting Bethesda is also a great idea, and in fact i am glad you gave me that one to think about Kipi.
My goal is not to give all of you a feeling of guilt. No one would achieve anything by that. But i really do mean, that as human beings we have a duty to help those who need it. And no one says that we can't help more than one thing at a time. Support Africa, support InXile, support Bethesda, support your local church, anything makes a difference. And dont be fooled into thinking that it doesn't!
You are also right, when you say that Interplay had to shut down BIS because of economic issues, but was it really necesary to fire them 14 days from Christmas? One of them got fired on his birthday. That's harsh!
As for you feeling of guilt i am not a psychiatrist, but maybe it is the doubt of whether you are doing enough for fellow human beings. I am not judging you, i am just trying to come up with an explanation. I am trying to help some people here, not hurt them! But it's likely that you are right. Maybe i overdid my flair for the dramatic. If anyone else feels the same way, please PM me.
And i would like to end this post by apologizing to anyone who i might have hurt or offended by this thread. If you have any suggestions to any way i could edit my posts to be less extreme (if you think that is the matter here) please message them to me, but do not post them here please. I would like to keep this spam-free.

I was just concerning of what this thread is going to be.
Generally, what you spoke of helping others, you have a point there. Also, if they do produce good game, of course I will buy it and prolly I'm not going to ask them so much than from other games to buy it. But if they do not make any good games that I see worth of buying, I'm not going to buy those. Same goes to Bethesda. Even when it's well known that they are making Fallout 3, I'm not going to buy any games from them if I do not see those worth of buying.
But then again, didn't Interplay try to do everything and tried to very last moment to get the problem solved? And I admit, it's harsh to fire someone on his birthday, or anyone just 2 weeks before Christmas, but what else could they have done? You are also right, when you say that Interplay had to shut down BIS because of economic issues, but was it really necesary to fire them 14 days from Christmas? Its good to hear that i got my point trough, and thank you for actually taking some time to think about it Kipi. It means a lot to me, and i got a feeling it also means something to a lot of other people. Thank you.
As for Interplay trying to save BIS, Interplay did not treat the people working on BIS good during the last months there. I know from experience, that as a boss you have to treat your employees nicely, no matter what.
Interplay knew for a long time what was going to happen, but they didnt even give BIS a heads-up. Instead they lied to them. First Interplay starts some rumors about shutting down everything and focusing on console games, then they deny those rumors and leaves all of them with no choice but to trust Interplay. And some people knew that that trust was misplaced, so they chose to leave BIS before being fired. Then Interplay gets the role as the victim, being left by its own favorite division, cursed to rot amongst console games, and Chris Avellone and Feargus Urquhart are suddenly the bad guys
speech: !) Thats not treating employees well.
It was unfair towards them both as employees, and as humans.

Heh..i dun want to get cought up in a debate
so ill just quickly post
fallout 2 was the first rpg i ever played, and by far the best iv ever played to date ( and iv played alot of games )..it has and always be one of those " classic" games thats so rare..i prob favour f2 more than f1 because i played f2 first..but f1 was also an extrodenary game..i was extreamly excited wen i heard about fallout tactics..but was VRY disapointed..they tried something new, and in my book.. failed..wen i heard about fallout 3, based the same as f2 and f1..i almost pissed my pants:laugh:
best news iv heard inawhile..ack, as life hates me so much..the company wen bankrupt and the game stoped > . <...i dun favour a certain company ...the game is wot matters to me...no matter who/wot/where..i will support any company that makes fallout 3 ( if ever ) 110 %
as i hope other fallout buffs will
-- oh and as for them being fired near chrissi..indeed does sound slack..but in todays world almost ALL companies want 1 thing..money..thats all they care about, and they'll get it ..as the masses of peep will get suckered in..too few movies, games, and everything else r dun with such care..to a major corp or w/e peep arnt human..there a recource, and an expendable one at that.
the good movies/games ( which there r few ) r often underrated..but the supporters of them r strong indeed..to me.fallout is the ONLY game that i consider a master peice, i hope i get to see/play some more ..before work later in life takes over too much..as for movies *offtopic*i think u all should watch Leon, and The city of Lost Children...both magnificent movies which u all should watch...
lol hope that all made sense

I can only say that just sitting talking about it wont make it any better. Make a difference by acting, not just by saying your opinion. I bought The Bards Tale, and apart from being a seriusly funny and intruiging game richer, i have also supported a worthy cause. Actually, we have here an opportunity to help create a firm that doesn't just focus on money and prestige.

Well, this is only speculation, but I wouldn't wonder if Interplay has denied them to use plans/ideas of old Fallout team, BlackIsle. Basically, it would be that Interplay doesn't want that their game comes out by other development team, just with the different workname.

[QUOTE=Woozaii]You might very well be right Kipi, but i think that the work that BIS had already done came with all of the rights for the game.

Well, basing on my knowledge of capitalism and such, it would actually be quite wonder to see a company give right to use everything their employers have done and planned. Why even should they? As Even mentioned, everything todays companies thinks is money. And they won't easily give other companies possibilities to make money with something they have done.
This reminds a bit a situation we had here some time ago: A company that produced candies stopped the production, and gave the rights to a company in other country. So, basically the new company had rights to use the same names of candies as the old one, but the shutting company denied their ex-employes to take part in any company that produced similiar candies, or give any information they had.
Same could be applied to this situation.
