Icewind Dale 2 keeps "running into a problem and has to shut down"...

I'm getting real tired of all of this. First, I had problems about a year back getting past the second chapter of the game. Now it's this.

This game keeps crashing on my system and I'm just wishing to play the game and get it over with. Any idea why this keeps happening?

Probably not the smartest question to ask, but have you patched it?

Also whats left of the Interplay site still has a IWD 2 section that deals with a few common errors. Its [url="http://www.interplay.com/support/product.asp?GameID=372"]here[/url]

Yes, I have patched it, and the patch only adds some unreleased content. No fixes.

Isn't it possible to backup the save game on an external media, then reinstall/reformat?
