Newbie to IWD
Hi, All,
Just picked up a copy of IWD in the bargain basement bin. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have a manual. Can anyone point me to a website that might have a copy of the manual?
Also, what patches do I need to make this game an enjoyable and painfree experience?
Thank you very much to anyone who can help me.

Thank you, everyone for responding so quickly.
I checked the CD folders, and thus far, I've only found the ReadMe doc that describes errata in the "manual" which I can't seem to find. I'll do any search of the CD again just in case. If you have a copy of the the manual in PDF, do you think you could email it to me? I'd really appreciate it. Please let me know, and I can give u my email address via PM.
Thanks so much.
My version was one of those that sold under one of the budget labels too, and didn't have an accompanying paper manual.
I think I have a copy of the manual in PDF format on my CD. Have you checked the folder IWD installed into and the CD itself for one?
Heart of Winter?
Thank you so much for helping me with the lost manual. I'll PM you my email address.
I'm not sure what you mean by Heart of Winter. I bought the first Icewind Dale. It doesn't say if it's the Heart of Winter edition.
Okay.
I haven't got it it on this computer though so I'll have to email it to you tomorrow.
As for patches, if you own Heart of Winter, look for the Trials of the Luremaster patch. It adds a lot of content on including a big quest.

Thanks, Fiona. Now I don't feel so deprived for buying from the bargain basement bin.
Yeah, this forum's pretty good. People here are relatively nice. I've only had one run-in with a moderator who told me my question was inappropriately late.
It was the very first game I played. I didn't have a manual and I didn't know about any modifications. I liked it anyway and it brought me here. Folk are very helpful here
LOL, be careful with bumping old threads... there's no real hardcore rule on them. On one hand, you'll be told that bumping old threads is bad, OTOH you'll be told to use the search on old threads if you start a new thread with a question asked months ago.
BTW, which end are you taking the barium in?

When in doubt, just start a new thread. It's helpful to search out the old threads for answers to common questions, but most people don't mind answering questions if you don't have that kind of time.
For the IWD version you have, you want patch v.1.06. Try Fileplanet or download.com. If you bought your copy in Britain, you might want to check out the Brit-only patch on those websites as well. The British edition of the game has an error on it that causes crashes at one part of the game, and the Brit-only patch fixes it.
I really wish they didn't sell IWD without the Heart of Winter expansion. I got caught with that 2 years ago, then had to buy the Icewind Dale Ultimate Collection (IWD, HoW, IWD2) to get HoW, as the expansion by itself isn't sold much anymore.
Heart of Winter adds a fair bit of new area, but also tweaks the game a bit, adding more spells, more weapons, inventory management items such as scroll cases, and special abilities for some classes (bard, druid). It's worth it.

I think the main thing is that you contribute something useful to the topic. A connected problem or big contribution rather than just saying you agree/diasgree with something.
@barium, check your emails. You should hopefully have a manual now.
