A kensai in full armor

Post by glory »

about a week ago i posted a topic on a dual class i was trying... dualling a level 12 kensai with 5 slots in 2-handed weapons to a thief. As an update...i didn't even realize how powerful he would become...he is now level 12/29 in TOB and when he hit level 24 i got the "use any item" skill. Now he is wearing the white dragon scale. Doing upwards of 150 - 250 dmg in backstabs with celestial fury...switching to holy avenger for fights, wearing bards gloves, ungodly AC and damage... i had no idea i was creating a monster.

So presumably you could dual a mage at level 12 to thief, get to wear all armor, and still cast all your spells while having the advantages of thief skills.

Yeah, but how strong is a level 12 mage anyway? no hp and crapspells.

Anyway, is it possible for a wizard slayer to do the same? dual to thief and use any item? then he would be strong too.

In my oppinion that skill makes the game somewhat unbalanced, especially with dualclassing.

It kinda figures that the Kenasai and Wiz. Slayer would get most benefits from dualing to a thief, check this post for more info.

Scrapr the spellcastin' part.
No mage can cast spells while wearin' armor.

Oh, an' by the way, wearin' full plate as a kensai be cheese, methinks. I sayed it before, an' I'll be sayin' it again. Kensai get their combat bonuses coz' they nay be wearin' any encumbrance. If ye use Use Any Item to make 'em wear armor, in PnP, ye'd lose yer combat bonuses, if ye 'ave a fair DM.

What happened to roleplayin', me wonders.... :(

Same thing fer Wizard Slayer/Thief. Not usin' magical items be what their goal be all about. They be hatin' magic.

Ah well, sigh..... Use Any Item ruined dual classin'....

And what's with Elven Chain?
Ah well, sigh..... Use Any Item ruined dual classin'
Personally,I think it ruined the Thief as a Class :( What's the point of "Thief Only" items now well, except for early dualed thieves like Imoen&Nalia? Instead, they could have given the Thief some real D&D abilities like Reading Scrolls and Dual Wielding (and some others I can't think of right now :) ) BTW,can someone explain how exactly does "Use any Item" work in P&P ?

Yeah, you might have started the topic meaning that, but we made it a discussion. It was nothing directed at you, just our thoughts about it.

Oh good, this looks like one of those "well-I-think-it's-cheesy" vs "well-I-don't-care" type topics. Hmm, I wonder how long it will take before forum folks think that having Sarevok in your party will be considered as cheesy or powergaming? Three months? Two months?

few mostly random bits.

Fezek - having saravok is only cheesy if you dual him to thief, and use any item the holy avenger.

why do some think that:
"use any item has ruined the thief"
now i've seen that on a few message boards today. whats up?

i'd be inclined to agree that tob is not the place for a single class thief, there just are not very many chances for the class to shine.

i've played tob as an assassin and "use any item" was really one of the few things that saved that guy.

pre tob the thief was prob. not used quite so much as the 2nd half of a power dual, but so what.

and lastly who appointed some of you to the lofty perch of "cheese police" my inner libertarian is screaming "what ever some one does in the privacy of their own home is up to them."

Koz_Ivan-san! You'll be pleased to know that you are the second person I know who has considered Sarevok cheesy. The other person described Sarevok's special ability as cheesy. Pure poetry. The game has been out a month( not even released in some parts) and already the spark of Sarevok=cheese has already started. i give it two months before mmost on the boards describe him as cheesy.

actually i like having saravok in the party for roleplaying reasons, and hey i brought him back from the dead, i'd better keep an eye on him.

and i was under the impression that he would bring perspective on the whole tob situation.

and he certainly did not slow us down in combat either.
