HOTU Help Please

Hiya. I'm a level 20 Cleric/level 3 Druid and I can't talk to animals like I could when I played NWN and SOU as a straight druid. Is there some sort of conflict that would disallow my speaking to animals? Any help would be great, thanks

From a NWN rule I can't see why there should be a conflict. But having never played a druid - then I wouldn't be able to say from experience. It could also just be a bug. (Sorry - I can't help you more)

The only reason I can think of is that your animal empathy isn't terrible high with only 3 druid levels and it perhaps was as a straight druid in NwN/SoU?

Or perhaps, there are no animals to speak to at all, but only monsters, in HotU

I have the manual from the original NWN (the big fat one) and I didn't see anything about a level requirement for talking to animals. I thought animal empathy only allowed me to dominate them.

Talking with animals isn't something that's based in the nature classes (e.g. druid or ranger) but a dialogue placed in the game by Bioware. So if you can't talk to a creature it's probably because Bioware didn't intend you to do so.

That can't be the case because there is a rat who is supposed to help me open a door but I can't talk to it to ask it to do so.

Hmm, that's true.

I vaguely remember a dialogue with the rats on the first floor of Undermountain. Have you always been unsuccessful in talking to the animals in-game?

If you became a druid in-game it may be possible that the game doesn't recognise it giving you the ability to talk to animals.

If you haven't already try patching the game to the latest version.

I did become a druid in-game. And I've never been able to talk to animals, even ones I should have been able to. I'll try patching the game.
