This problem pops up often. What I can think to do is either to read what he said from the journal, and from the top of the page, or to restart from the last save spot.

Its just a bug. They have it on both KOTOR's. Are u keeping up with ur updating because 1 of the updates stopped the characters from doing that.

I dont update. So its also sometimes a problem with the orginal...never had it in the frist though.

I had a save point seconds before the convo, so I was fine, and it worked fine after that.
