More Intellgence = Less Experience ?

Post by Tarsellis »

Maybe I'm crazy, but on my second play through, I think putting any points into intelligence actually hurts you more than it helps you, and by a lot too!

So on my first game I noticed half way through, and again later, that everything was giving me far less experience points than it did at first. Initially I chalked it up to hit points of monsters, or levels I gained.

But on my second game, when I beat my first drake, I barely, if, got 200,000 for it. The next one I beat I got 170,000. I'm only a couple levels highers. Also, where as I got more exp for minotaurs in my last game (at least 20,000), and more for chunnelers (10,000 now, I was estimating a little under 20,000 before) and rock chunnelers (40,000 before, and barely 30,000 now) though I was a higher level. The only thing I can see that's changed is I have a higher intelligence now.

Anybody else noticing similar problems? Got any guesses as to why there's such a significant difference, and I've never gotten any where near the walkthrough's estimation of experience for killing drakes/elders/demons, etc?

Yes, I have the same problem. I had no idea that it might be tied to intelligence. I remember when I killed some of my first drakes, I got either 260K or 300K experience points, then later in the game it was more like 175K and 200K, which sucked. I was just attributing this to the level of my character, thinking that the higher the level the less experience points. I also thought that maybe they were being really cool and saying, since this is your 20th drake killed, you do not get as much experience... Of course, with all the little things wrong with DL I doubt they keep track of this.

If it is intelligence that is causing this, then that really bites. I mean the reason you get higher intelligence is to reduce the cost of the skills, but if it reduces your revenue of points it can hurt you more than it can help. This is really going to tick me off if it is true - !@#$!%#!%!@$#

LOL I agree. I'm not positive that this is true, but this is the best link I've been able to come up with yet. I spose if I get bored enuf I can downgrade to 1.1, and mess around with the trainer to see for sure, but that's just too much hassle

I noticed that when I played a zaur fighter under 1.3, I got about 10-20% less experience for enemies than when I played an elf female mage under 1.1. The elf female had way more intelligence, so that wasn't the cause, but something seems to effect how much experience you get.

Hrmm.

Whelp, the first time I was a human deathlord/sorcerer. I'm not sure when, but probably after I became a deathlord, I started getting much less experience for killing things.
This time I'm an Urgoth samurai/paladin working towards a crusader. I've already noticed the experience drop. I can't say for sure, but it may have been after I got my samurai class, because I at least had my fire ward before I killed my first drake, and I tended to avoid wasting xp in skills that would become cheaper as I leveled up.

You guys I think the nesting drakes are worth more then the drakes that spawn. So after you kill the 6 or so drakes that are always down in the nesting area every other drake you come across is a spawn and comes in two flavors the 180,000 flavor and the 230,000 flavor (aprox) I'm on my second time through and about to start killing drakes again I'll try and check it out.
The chunnelers did seem to become worth less after patch 1.3. And they lowered the effect of the locus swarm attack. So that might figure. D

Guys, i don't think that intelligence had much effect to experience gained.
So, don't focus on that little "problem" and be satisfied with "nobody cannot stop me now, cause my chracter is almost half-god".
Enjoy the game - and remember that low intelligent heroes always needs much experience than clever ones to get through the game :p

Whelp, I don't know what it is, but something definately adversly affects the amount of experience you get from killing a monster. I now get 168-172k for "weak" drakes, and 210k (little variation) for "tough" drakes. Heck, Voraatus only gave me 1.4 mil exp. Granted, killing him was a joke, and only took a few seconds of my second fire ward spell, and my celestial magic was at 10, but I'm definately not getting the advertised experience, and I'm definately not getting as much experience as I used to, or as my last game. Heck, game 1, 40k for a rock chunneler, current, 22-23k for one. At this rate, I certainly can't imagine making level 30. Don't even know if I could get 20 points in any skills without some sacrifices.

It is entirely possible that the patch also effected the experience gained from some creatures. I do know that I have not experienced any differences in the experience during the elder trials, and I missed the experienced value for Voratuss cause I killed another creature immediately afterwards.

It is still worth noting that settings do have an effect, and perhaps some people may be at a lower setting than previously thought. I still will go with the possibility that the new patch changed values.

It does seem the new patch changed some exp. point values. I can't think of anything else it might be. For a fact some dropped items from creatures were reduced in value $. D.
