How to mod appearences

okay then well ive made another thread on this but no-one has really answered it so here i didnt explain well probably but does anyone knoww how to change appearences and stuff like the mods do how do you do that someone please tell me i mean like on all the mods which like change darth nihiluses skin is it a tool or what can some one please tell if they know? and how to?
