Getting Started

I'm bout to start kotor ii, just wondering if it's true it's best to go all dexterity and only 8 strenght, because you have that finesse skill.
Another thing, is it also true that you should also do 8 intelligence, because (as in the last game) you need no skills (except repair in the last game but you could still add to that with 8 int).

No, dext is the worst thing you can have in this game. In k1 I never even had repair, if I did it was uber low. And intelligance is one of the best things you can have on this game IMHO.

In first game Dexterity is very important while Strength sucked. This time I'd say it's exactly the opposite (that does not mean that you should keep your Dex at 8).

In KotoR II Inteligence is very important and so are the skills.Repair is especialy important because for some reason (read: bug) game allways use your Repair skill when you breakdown items (for item creation it uses skill of character actualy using workbench).

So what other skills are also important except repair? I'm guessing persuade, any others?

Most skills except persuade are required to build decent upgrades at workbenches. Treat injury is to lab stations as repair is to workbenches.

Security and demolitions are more important this time around, as opening locks and recovering mines now generate reasonable amounts of XP.

In other words, it's a good idea to start your first game as a Sentinel with a reasonable INT to give yourself a few skill points. You can still change your build and go Jedi Master/Sith Lord or Weaponmaster/Marauder later...

But can't you just invest in treat injury, demolitions and security with your party members?
Or isnt that the way to go?

Yes and no.

There are a lot of cinematic sequences in this game where you fly solo, or have to take specific party members with you. Workbenches are cunningly placed where you can't just chop and change your party members to make use of their skills on demand (Telos military base, Goto's yacht, Enclave sub-level, etc).

I tend to make use of my party's strongest skills heavily for constructing upgrades until I leave Telos. But by the second planet I have invested in the repair cross class skill for Kreia's skill lesson. By the time I have left the second planet, most of my skills are hovering around 15.

If I do switch class to anything other than Watchman, I really miss the skill points and end up investing in intelligence points to get a point or two back...
