Whenever I'm trying to connect to a server (anyone that GameSpy shows on the list) and join a game session to play NWN in multi I get an error message that some kind of *.tlk file is missing. Do you know what that means and why that file would be gone?
Also, do you know a way to play in multi with my own pregenerated characters?
B/c when I check "Show pregenerated characters" (in multiplayer mode) I only see those that I have created after loading/starting a multi game, but not those that I have on my computer. Are these chars stored on the server...?
I can not remember, but I think you need CEP (Community Expension Pack or some such, I don't remeber what it stands for). If you click server info before you log into the server, you should see if it requires CEP, and you should also see if you can import homemade characters.

Many/some servers doesn't allow for the usage of "homemade" characters, but keep the characters in a server vault (to minimize the risk of hacked/cheated characters, and to control balance), so you'd on these servers only see the characters you've made on server.
I don't know what that is. I have the original game and the two exps installed, and GameSpy...
It's the Community Expansion Pack. Just about any server you attempt to connect to requires you to have it. If you don't, you'll get that message. I had the same problem and was frustrated out of my mind.
I don't bother playing online, it's too much of a hassle. Each server has it's own requirements, and so many hak paks are available, I could spend hours trying to find a little addition to be able to run the new server, and then not like it at all. I've completely wasted days doing so until I decided to not bother.

So I have to buy ANOTHER exp pack to be able to play online?!

Nope, you have to update your game, and it should ask if you want to install CEP and some other things.
Well, I updated the game recently. Don't remember being asked for CEP, though...
It's free, the link Xandax gave should show you what it is and where to get it. That was sort of a group of players deciding to condense a lot of haks for ease of use to solve the problem I had above. Now, if they did that with the rest of them I'd be thrilled...

when I host the game and others want to join (either by clicking the game or direct connect) they always get timeout...? Do you have any idea why that happens?
We're trying to play the original campaing, the game is not altered in any way.

I second, I tried joining Brynn for a SOU game. The CEP fails its' download, and now, we get rejected from making a game. We can join one already made by someone else, but we can't make one ourselves, or join one the two of us made.
Could it have something to do with firewall settings, not allowing incomming traffic to the game?
I have never hosted a multiplayer game, so I wouldn't know for sure - but my immideate guess would be the network/blocking traffic.
I turned mine off, thinking that was the problem. It times out, regardless, which is what is confusing me. Last year I had no problem whatsoever.
